This setup has a ton of problems which I paid thousands and thousands of dollars to have done.... The person who installed is Rich Yang from Seavision... I have been in the hobby a very long time.. I can write a book about all the mistakes he made as well as not finishing the system and milking me for tons of money.. I would be embarrassed to show my receipts and I can't believe I let it go this far.. I guess live and learn.. There is no way I was one of his many setups.... He messed up mine and my cousins install as well, in which we are retuning and redoing.. BTW I actually met him through someone on here and was trying to save $ and get a good setup.. I got the complete opposite. Enough of the rant, Im the one who is an idiot for being scammed so badly.. Should have seen it after the first mistakes and most importantly should have done it on my own, especially, after his first words were, dont buy from miracles aquariums in canada... lmao

Ok, here it is almost ready to run.. Ill have a post on RC as well.
A little info about my experience. Had saltwater tanks for over 10 yrs and never used skimmers nor fuge... had great corals acros to zoos (still do) but no tank over 75 gallons.. I got away with a lot, but with this size I obviously can't get away with any of that. So, I have tons to learn with all of this equipment and how everything works.

My goal is to have a lot of tangs and several other fish/inverts and mixed variety of corals... (i need to know a lot more about acros, other corals have been really easy to keep) and I have 3 large islands, the overflow box will act as one.

7ft(84inch) x 36inch x 30inch all sides starfire glass, center overflow box(which I will grow corals on)

I have 400 lbs + of live rock(which i let all die so i can start "clean") in there which look like much less, and coarse grade white substrate.

lighting: 400w mh X 3 sun light supply with two t5's on each fixture I may cover the entire lighting w a canopy next yr, or save for a nicer lighting system.

half hp bermuda pump for running the system
Using ecotech 240's for flow/waves
Large Bermuda for skimming
calc reactor
phosban reactor

Tank on the bottom will be fuge
Top tank is for fragging and what not

I just removed all the tap water and now will fill w/ ro water and start cycling, prob by tuesday, I just want to make sure Im happy with my rock work.

I have a couple questions and I know a ton more to follow:

1. What brand/type heater to buy for the system.

2. Should I definitely make a screen top for jumpers?

3. When adding fish and getting multiple tangs, do i have to add the same species at once? and will my large yellow tang get along w/ 2 more smaller yellow's?

4. Add 30 shrimp for cycling? (there is still a lot of die off on the rock, this will be nasty!)

5. Your opinions on my rockwork... Anything diff or is it good to go

6. get rid of bio balls, will they act as live rock or?

looks good, 1 thing id take the bio balls out , the vortecs are they in dry box's ? and would maybe put elbows on the ecadors sp ? my lfs has a tank with center overflows and always thought it would look good foamed up so you dont see the actually box and it looks like another rock structure in the middle

First off, this thread makes me go... Damn I'm poor lol. Great build

Anyway, excuse the retardism but how are the vortech dry sides in the overflow box? Wouldn't it get wet... Unless there's some type of thing covering it.

Yes ditch the bioballs and try and put some pieces of live rock in there.

Yes make a screen top. It's an absolute must.

Why not let the die off on the rock cycle the tank instead of shrimp? Kinda cruel

Yes take out bio balls

Heater, Ebo Jager

Screen sounds like a good idea as long as it doesn't filter out too much light

Be prepared for your sand to not be where you placed it when you turn on return pump and vortech
