The bizaare thing is... me too. It's why those files are named HODxxx.jpg, where HOD = Heart of Darkness.

I don't know whether to be freaked out or flattered that we thought of the same thing!

There's certainly something about that picture...

HOD is one of my all-time favorite reads, along with quite a few of Conrad's other works.

Heh. In the meantime, I need to snap probably somewhere in the neighborhood of a few thousand pictures this weekend in order to get a couple dozen good ones that I'm going to be needing for a project.

Times like this I wish I were a better photographer, had better photographic equipment, or both :)

In any case, I think it's pretty safe to say this thread will get a pretty major photo update between now and sunday.

:) yeah, lots of pictures is a good thing.

Especially when my photography skills are so bad that I figure I might get 1-2 halfway decent shots out of every 100 or so I take. :P

Went and registered over at the Aquatic Photography Forum this morning, hoping the folks over there might be able to give me some practical instruction I can actually use. My camera's not a DSLR, but it does have a manual mode offering some control over aperture setting, shutter speed and ISO setting, so hopefully if I learn what the hell I'm doing with those it may make a difference. Seems like all the really good fish photographers all use remote flashes though, which isn't an option for me. Not only do I not have one, my camera couldn't make use of one even if I did.

What happens when you wrap three layers of tissue paper around your camera's built in flash as a diffusor....

The folks on the aquatic photography forum have been very helpful in giving me some tips, using the tissues was their idea. Once the tank lights come on in another couple of hours I'll be busy snapping more shots, so figure on a real photo update later today.

Lovely shots! But all that ADA glass bling is making me doubt your claims you were able to put the tank together on a tight budget. :P
