I figured this would kind of burn itself out but its been a month and its still here, smothering and killing my coral. Please help I'm getting close to throwing the whole thing in the garbage.

Raising the PH does help with dinoflaellates, but the problem is that once the ph is dropped below 8.6, the dinos have the tendency to make a comeback. The way I have dealt with it in the past was somewhat like how I battle hair algae. And thats with a 4 day black out, regular changings of GFO, and keeping an elevated PH level for at least a week after the blackout.

Here is an article you should find helpful http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-11/rhf/index.php#5

K thanks guys ive had this happen once be4 with my old tank but for the life of me cant remember how I dealt with it back then. Just changed my Gfo and added carbon now to deal with the Ph and photoperiod when I get home. What the hell brought this on anyway

That's really hard to say with out us knowing more about your tank parameters and reefing habits. Sometimes its caused when people switch salt brands. Some salt contains more iron than others, that is why so many people say that water changes actually makes it worse because you may be unintentionally raising iron levels.

Right I had heard iron levels played a role in it. Interesting note I added carbon and changed my GFO and its looking somewhat better. I realized last night I took the carbon out about a month ago and never replaced it so I wonder if something (iron?) built up in the system and now the carbon is taking it out again?

Hey if I do decide to dose with peroxide should I take out the carbon?

no I keep my carbon in at all times I actually do a daily maintenance dose with peroxide and I notice better polyp extension on all my acros and less diatom build up on the glass as a bonus.I would re-read that link over again just so you have all the variables down, it's relatively easy and harmless but just in case soak up all the information first
