i've come to a conclusion that i will stick with my salifirt.these testkits are similar to AP test kits, which are pretty good in range, but a huge range. i had a solution with 7.5 PH and 8 PH 8.4 PH and these all came up as 8 PH under elos test kits. they are very broad in range where it does not even matter anymore. the alk test kits are in range of any 8-9dkh in my water which doesnt do anything for me, because for a test kit to be great, they have to be in range. also 10ML of test solution each ML consist of 15-16 drops to 1ml so you would have around 20 test per test kit. where i get 100-200 per test kit of salifirt. this is what i have concluded.

Thanks for the information and I will pass this back to Italy. The "broad range" that you talked about is interesting. On your ph you said that it read "8"? Was that just a guess because the color chart does not have an "8" color. On the dkh I also find this criticism a little misleading. Are you saying that you want this range to be smaller? The one thing I like about our test kits is the fact that it is made for ease of use and accuracy for the parameter you are testing for. For instance, our po4 test kit is a much smaller range along with NO3, NH3, etc. I can see that criticism on those kits because that would be of concern on these parameters. I cannot see the importance of the difference between 8.1 and 8.6 dkh when most agree that a range of 7-11 is fine. The amount of tests is a concern and I will let Elos Italy know of this. I gave herman some of our other test kits and I will watch to see the input on these. Jesse

easy to use sacrafices the precision of the read out, would i really trust a reading out of that range? that was the question i was asking myself. You dont see a diffrence between 8 and 7.5? when i dose 2 part i quickly boost up if my range is sroping a bit down, then for PH i use a monitor. Im just saying like 12dkh alot of people like that range, for SPS around 12 SPS burns tips, and that around 11.6 it's fine which is it????

The kh test kit has a dropper that allows for .03 ml per drop, which would be 33 drops per ml which would be approx. 30-50 test per kit. That is less than the salifert and for some, including myself, the ease of use would make up for this difference. I can however see the argument and I will definitely bring this up in my conversations back to Italy.

You should see a difference between 7.5 and 8 but you said the elos test kit read 8 and it does not have an 8 reading. On the dkh, I would say if you want to run that close to the "edge" than I would not trust any kit intended for hobby use and go more on your own observations. For example the droppers we use are pre-measured and will give the same drop, no matter how hard you squeeze and the salifert kit uses a syringe and droppers that are far from user friendly. If the ph test kit was that far off than that is a problem but I have not personally experience this and our kits are the only kits to be validated by a separate lab (NIST) for accuracy and quality control. I also use a ph monitor and again this a parameter that has a broad acceptable range. For the type of testing you wanted to do it would probably have been better to use one of our po4 kits or something that has the range that you are looking for. I actually can test 0 on my salifert and I cannot do that on my elos kit, for one of my tanks. Anyways, thanks for the input. Jesse

i dont think salifirt is that hard to use tho, i test way to often i almost memorize the chart LOL. salifirt im not saying it's best test kit out there, but the syringe helps alot, some people like me forget how many drops you squeeze out of a small bottle. the smaller 1CC syringes has nice control and lets me read the number off the syringe.

i want to try your po4 test kit, but my friend herman is going to test that so im awaiting on how great it is.

I have the test kits Jesse spoke about.
Herman and I are going to compare them with salifert, lamotte, seachem, and a couple of others. we are waiting for the companies to send them too us so we can test them all at the same time. For me the Po4 will be the most interesting to see.
