This might be a dumb question but when you guys buy new frags do you grow them out on the frag or attach them to a rock after acclimating? I feel like my frags never grow or spread

I usually glue mine to an appropriate place on my rocks.

If you are keeping them on a frag rack, they likely aren't getting the best flow or lighting being in a corner/or against the side wall of the tank.

What particular type of frags are not showing any growth for you?

I don't like the look of plugs on my rocks, so unless it's pretty encrusted I pop them off the plug and glue them onto the rock. Just a matter of aesthetics though, your frags should encrust and grow normally on the plugs. Maybe like Kathy suggested try moving them somewhere else in the tank?

Me too. I really don't like the look of frag plugs and remove them when possible.

I Cut the frag plug as close to the coral as possible so u don't c the white plug. Then glue it to a rock. Also try not to move them, I think the more u move the frags the less they grow.

+1. Usually the frags just pop off for me. Sometimes the frag is encrusted or difficult to move, so you can't separate them.

I agree that you should try not to move the frags. That's another good point.

I had a blasta wellsi w 2 heads for over a year stil didn't grow a new head only got a little larger. Got Gsp that never grew at all. ( new gsp I got from a friend grows better though) zoas barely every grow also but I'm still new at this this current tank been up only 1 month and lights still only at 25% power. I checked calcium for fun last night it was 480 my only "concern" is the nitrates are always at 20ppm but it maybe the test kit.

Set and forget is a good plan, but hardly practical for most sps; light acclimation is important. Like others drag plugs stink. I do a Beyer dip, snap or cut as much of the frags base off as I can, and glue it to a new piece of rubble and sight them in lower light.

I like many have learned the hard way, Cut the plug and get rid of it. If flat worms are around chances are there eggs will be on the plug... CLIP IT AND DIP IT SOmeone taught me that i just wish i would have listened sooner

Stay positive and focus on your own work-no need to care too much about distractions.

Can you describe what light you have and what new light you got?

Sure I used to have a 16w LEDs cheap fixture over my 8 gallon for a year. Which is light I'm referring to when my frags didn't grow. A month ago I got a new tank and new light it's a 145w pacific sun LEDs triton s. I been acclimating my frags to it and power upto 25% now. All frags are doing great my question here is do frags grow faster on the plugs or when we stick them to rocks. I read last night some corals can even die if left on frag for long time. I believe the blue clove polyps is one of those. Thanks.
