For riccordea rock? What a joke! great waste of taxpayer $$.
They were taking rock/corals from a 'protected/restricted' area...
While on this site, you should at least pretend that you care about the reefs.

Well said Kurt! The future of this hobby and the oceans where all specimens originate from are dependent on the success of aquaculture and captive breeding.
Jeez somebody sounds mad. If your not going to contribute anything positive to the conversation you should probably stay out of it.If you guys were 100% concerned you wouldn't even have tanks. And leave everything in the ocean, so don't go around with your chest puffed out thinking your righteous.
The hobby itself needs to take a step back and think about where they are buying from. ORA and Reefgen are examples of where we should be buying from not huge wild collected colonies that end up dying before they end up in a tank.Responsible and sustainable wild collection/ mariculture is also an important part of the equation if you are serious about preserving reefs. Done responsibly, collection for the aquarium trade is a lucrative and viable source of income for local populations. Without it, many are left with no choice but more destructive survival strategies. The key here is responsible and sustainable which requires oversight and regulation which occurs in some areas, but doesn't in others. Certainly, breaking the law is neither responsible nor sustainable and those who do need to be held accountable.
