I got someone fire at petco

I wonder why nobody ever goes after petland ?

Or a LFS down the block from the Carle Place petco that has 2 20in sharks, 3 huge triggers, 6 big monos and a few more fish in a 120. Or a different store down the block the other way with large lookdowns in a small tank or a shark display which which isn't larger then 20in wide.

For the record the OP stated that he was not happy the kid got fired and said it was the stores fault for not training properly. So please read again because two pages of claiming OP was bragging was based on the title only.

On the vary first post I was talking about petco as a company and that they send out a so called team to come out and setup everything. How would you like to be put in cage with a starving lions and have to run for your life like that fire fish was. in my opinion the op is more proud of "i got someone fired" than "i did something right about the hobby"

#1 why don't you go apply and take care of the aquatics department
#2 why don't you offer help to the now fired kid and tell him you're an experienced reef keeper with a degree in biology and teach him how to deal with saltwater fish so he can keep his job
#3 petco provably called you "if they really did" to calm you down, probably the kid was sent to another store and replaced with a more unqualified individual

I would like to just throw this out there. I work for a chain Petstore in the NYC area. We sell saltwater stuff and let me be honest. These stores cannot be run like your typical home aquarium. Most stores order thousands of dollars worth of saltwater fish a week and with such a high turnover things go wrong. The firefish could've been hiding when they put the lionfish in that tank. Mistakes happen. At my job, some of our tanks have cyano. I try to remove it but it's there and that doesn't mean I don't care. You can only do so much when a company dictates something to you. Yeah we could fight it but there goes our job and this is just me but I'm not losing my job because the yellow tang shouldn't be in the 40 gallon display tank. I do what I'm told and the way I make up for it is by educating customers on what not to do and to run a successful reef at home.


Also petco doesn't get to order their saltwater fish. They get sent a shipment and whst they get is what they get. So this kid more than likely opened a box and had to decide on the fly where to put these fish. He has no control. Don't blame the workers, blame the company. The workers more than likely would like to do it differently but when the **** hits the fan, you have no control.

I not happy with this as the kid in the fish department most likely was not trained in saltwater fish

IDK, I think thats pretty clear that he was not too happy the kid MAY HAVE lost his job. By him defending the fact the kid was never trained indicates that besides the flat out "I not happy".

People read into what people are trying to say .. I didn't take it that he was happy that a person got fired. Forget the title read what his concerns were that he wasn't trained. Better yet like someone stated the fire fish could of been hiding when lion fish was placed in the tank. Mistake mostly likely happen and we shouldn't rush into jumping gun. Only thing that should of been handled different was to explain to worker you should remove the fire fish. He might not known or seen it. Agree Petco shouldn't sell fish if you are not going to give that fish a chance to get sold healthily. They are not allow to use any copper or medication to treat a sick fish. Bottom line they system s**k ...
A big chain store like this should have monthly sales on different salts and dry goods and just sell on volume to make a profit. Because there can make a profit that way. But you see a small inventory on saltwater dry goods. Sell the stuff like they sell dog and cat food. Which closed a lot of mom and pops store because they buy by the bulk . Which means they sell it a lot cheaper than mom and pop pet store.

I feel the same way about PetCo! Even down here in Louisiana, there's no change in the way they do things. I wish they wouldn't sale livestock. Heck, and I'm telling the absolute truth, one or two of the employees at the PetCo here in Shreveport, literally send a lot of their customers to my husbands shop for livestock. It's a shame the conditions they put these innocent creatures in! Now as for the kid that got fired, I feel bad for him because he was probably doing what he was told and doesn't know a damn about saltwater anything. It's corporate, or whomever running the saltwater section, that needs to be fired. All corporate cares about is making a buck!

I read this yesterday morning when there were only 2 replies and I walked away with the same feeling as frogman the op was happy to get some kid fired who most likely was just doing a summer job. Now the kid will stay home the rest of the summer and play video games. True it is a forum and you really cant tell how the op felt but it does come off that way frogman is not the only one im sure more people got the same feeling.
The whole issue with petco got lost in the thread for me I could only think about the kid.
