Does any know if there are any veterinarian offices in Manhattan that have some fish knowledge? Have a angel that has had popeye for awhile. Recently it must have scratched it because now it looks infected and has increased in size. If anyone has any suggestions, the fish is at least 7 years old and would like to do what I can to save it.
Thanks, Mike

I don't think you're going to find a Vet in the area that works on fish, and if you do it's probably going to cost more than the fish is worth. Most of the time a fish that's been in the tank along time gets Pop-Eye from banging against something, and basically in time, and good water conditions it will go away. If it get infected, you can treat that with some antibiotics. Can you post a picture?

Not till tomorrow. I read in another forum that food grade epson salts can help with swelling and either erythromycin or kanaplex for infection. Problem is he is in a large tank so catching him out for antibiotic baths will not be easy.

This.

Keep in mind there is still so many things unknown to us. It's best to provide best conditions possible and treat with antibiotics like marrone said. Honestly, I think you'll end up doing more harm than good trying to treat it. Just think about how many PEOPLE are accidentally killed by doctors for a misdiagnosis.

if the fish is healthy it should recede back in the socket it will take a while and i think you made a mistake taking him out it stresses them more and lowers their immune system. years ago they used to treat freshwater fish by inserting a needle and relieving the air pocket i would not suggest doing this but i heard that it works. good luck
