By the way I do not use coral vital. When I do use it I use Reef Vital DNA and could not tell you if it helps with ick because my aquariums never had a problem with ick or any other diseases. As for making stuff yourself I would not recommend this to the average hobbyist because no one is quite sure even myself about many of the enzymes, bacterial strains and all the other stuff that I have been playing with lately. It is this work that has allowed me to run my tanks for over five years with no artificial filtration what so ever! I enjoy helping hobbyist make tanks that work and these tanks are not judged by size or expense but by their health and ability to replicate a marine ecosystem as closely as possible. You can build a beautiful tank even on a budget! All it takes is dedication, a true love for the organisms you are caring for, and alot of patience!! As far as Kalkwasser (Calcium Hydroxide)and other suppliments I may use I get mine from the chemical manufacturers directly and the stuff is all lab grade so this stuff I definately do not recommend the average anybody play with. Take Calcium Hydroxide especially lab grade, this can be some nasty stuff not only to your tank but to you as well! I have noticed that I had to cut dosages way back when using this stuff compared to off the shelf stuff so I am interested in what they cut it with but this being the case it could be an easy thing to over dose a tank if you are not sure what you are doing. But if used correctly can be a powerful tool in maintaining pH and Alk. Instead of Turbo Calcium I use Calcium Chloride when I need to, again from the chemical manufacturers or you could go to the local convience store and by the stuff to melt snow but I do not trust the purity so I get it direct. Any additive if over done can have accumilative side affects and become deadly to a tank! I am just as paronoid about the things I put into my tanks. I apologize to any one who I pissed off but love a good argument every now and again. Hey I am just a hobbyist just like the rest of you guys and girls lol!!!!

I rest my case.

LOL!

The products seem to have some value.

I'm unsure if this goes beyond the mere entertainment value...

You have to admit the marketing is a stitch! What's next: "VooDoo Vital?". Kills cynao with Bad Mojo!

This is the story of the American Dream. No?

Rec.aquaria.marine.reefs is a usenet newsgroup, so no article I'm afraid. Just posts. You can read it through the web if you're unfamiliar with usenet, just by typing the address groups.google.com in your web browser. Alternatively, to jump directly to rec.aquaria.marine.reefs just use this link:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&safe=off&group=rec.aquaria.marine.reefs

I spent a couple of minutes looking for the post of Craig's I had in mind, and didn't quite find it. Found a lot of posts of his re: vinegar, though, including in this thread:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&threadm=9met47%24nb1%241%40panix3.panix.com&rnum=2&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dcraig%2Bbingman%2Bvinegar%26hl%3Den%26meta%3Dgroup%253Drec.aquaria.marin e.reefs

... which should give you a place to start. You can also search on all of Craig's post with this link:

Hi Tullio,
Welcome to the board. If I could just make one tiny suggestion. If you could possibly separate paragraphs with a space it would make your longer posts so much easier to read.

Thanks.

Sorry about that I have a tendency to ramble on I know it is terrible. All these years in the business and a discussion on tanks still gets me going for hours!!!!!!!!!!
