"And, of course, there has been widespread condemnation of the New York and Washington attacks across the Muslim world - from governments, influential leaders and ordinary individuals."

"The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is extremely horrified and saddened by the tragedy in New York and Washington D.C. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this horrible and despicable crime. We condemn this heinous act and call upon our political leaders and the media to act responsibly, and not generalize when speculating about the perpetrators. Islam does not permit such unjust actions. Muslims are not terrorists and we condemn any terrorist attack against all people.

There were several hundred Muslims working in the World Trade Center. And, a large number of Muslims used to offer Friday prayer in the World Trade Center. There are many Muslims, who are still among the missing. ... Our hearts are with those who have lost loved ones in this terrible tragedy and our prayers are with the departed souls. "

Here are just some to name a few. I am not offended by your hatred (because I didn't sense any in your post). I am deeply offended however by your misinformed statements. Statements like those you made just add to the fire and increase the hate.

I didn't read all of the threads so far, however, I'm very optimistic about how everyone is handling it.

We all agree on one thing so far that justice should be done to whoever did this.

I have a lot of Arab/Muslims freinds that I grew up with and I would like to add few a comments about Islam:

Islam is a merciful religion and it denonunces any act of hate or blood shed. Yes, I would urge everyone to learn more about Islam before jumping to any conclusions.

Islam Said: In a state of war POWs should be treated like family and it doesn't matter what their religion is. Also, when troops enter another country, no one is allowed to even cut a branch or even fruit from a tree.

On the other side, media and ignorant people stereotype Islam in a bad situation. Suicide is prohibited in all religions including Islam. What's called "Jihad = Holy war = Heaven" is misunderstood by these stupid people who call themselves Mujahdeen.

It's a shame that Islam, Muslims and all Arabs are put on trial????
No one but McVeigh was on trial not every Christian or the entire military. When some policemen commit an act against civil rights we don't put the blame on every single cop. Only the bad ones are eliminated and we still trust the rest of them when we are in trouble.

My heart goes out for the victims and their families and a salute for all who are trying to help in the rescue.

God Bless America.

Cubera,

fmx2md is not really an american he is just here to get all he can from this country and give nothing back.

If you choose to come to this great free country than become a true American not just on paper but in your heart as well. If not than put your rag back on your head and go back to where you came from.

You're right. Perhaps we should take active steps to cleanse our nation of freeloaders and leaches. Anybody who would question the collective will of America should be expelled, at the very least.

How to do this? It would involve two steps: (a) Identify the parasitic individuals and organizations who seek to enjoy the fruits of Americans' sacrifices, while only bad-mouthing them in return, and (b) eliminate their destructive influence.

This won't be an easy task, but here are some of my proposals:

(a) Establish a litmus test that only truly patriotic Americans could pass - this would help identify the undesirables. This may involve the monitoring of volountary oath-taking, as well as volountary military service. Those not displaying such volounteerism would be suspect.
(b) Establish an Office for The Encouragment of Patriotic Values, to implement and enfore proper ideology amongst the populace. This will enable focused and organized crackdowns on the un-American elements in our society with rapidity, which is important so as to protect our children from our enemy's poisoning ideological influence.
(c) Immediately crack down on forums that encourage un-American discourse, such as internet forums and university campus-related activities.

Granted, this is only a first step, but eliminating traitors and leaches from our midst will be a long and difficult task. But with God on our side, we will prevail.

What are your suggestions?

Cubera and acecool … I thank you both for once again proving how immature we can all be. So by having just come from a service to help comfort a child who has lost a father, and provide comfort to a friend who was mugged while fleeing from the WTC (now had sad and pathetic is the day when a group of thugs take advantage of thousands of people running for their lives), praying five times a day that comfort falls upon all those who have been both indirectly and directly affected and that justice is brought to those who dare to take innocent lives, donating blood and helping to organize a blood drive in the hopes that it will help bring life to the lifeless, and helping in other ways as best as I know how … I’m guess your right I’m not an American. I’m just, how did you put it, “an arrogant, spoiled child lacking the intellegence (spelt intelligence) and sensitivity to comfort your fellow Americans.â€

I now regret starting this thread in the first place. It's sickening how blatantly racist some people are. What makes someone a racist is not that they have a professed hatred towards a certain group, it's not that they go around beating up people because of their skin tone, it's because they express ignorant all encompassing statements that show that they have not thought about what they have said. It's disgusting that people can sit there and say "put the rag back on your head" and not understand that that's a blatantly racist and callous statement. It's sickening that because someone wears something on their head, that they can then be considered a common enemy for all "true" patriots of the US. I'll put on a "rag" even if I'm not Arabic once those of you who keep on posting these ridiculous comments put on your white hood and cape and light that cross on fire that you seem to be hauling around.

Dave you did a good thing by starting this thread. Don’t for one-minute doubt yourself. It is a fact of life that ignorance is amongst us. We must look beyond this towards the light at the end of the tunnel. For the most part a nice civilized conversation was had (and I hope will continue), in which many fellow reefers, Americans, and human beings were able to express their opinions, beliefs, and questions. I have learned much from this post as I am sure you and other’s have too. It takes more than a couple of hateful posts to knock me off my feet.

Fmx2md, you have stated numerous times during this discussion how the US is to blame for starvation in Afghanistan, Palestinian suffering etc... My question is if "mercy and compassion are held as the highest virtues of Islam" then why aren't the Islamic followers involved in straightning out these problems? Why is it that we don't see any of Afghanistans brother nations feeding them?

On second thought, I'm glad someone with this mentality doesn't and I don't see eye to eye.

And ace, he said he was born and raised here.

Twinspot I stand corrected ... thank you!

SPS you are incorrect to assume that all the Muslim nations do not help out those who suffer including their Islamic brothers. For example, during the issue in Bosnia there was some military divisions from Pakistan that were sent. If I am not mistaken these divisions were there before the US or UN even intervened, however rarely did a US news-source acknowledge this in their commentary. Similarly many of these Islamic nations are providing some support to countries such as Palestine in the form of food, shelter, and financial contributions. As per Afghanistan most Islamic nations refuse to acknowledge the Taliban, as a form of government, and as such are extremely weary of making any type of donation if it will fall in the wrong hands. It annoys me that some of these wealthy Islamic nations do not do more, but at the same time I can understand why some cannot or do not help. Many of these nations have limited resources and armies. They have enough trouble extinguishing any national fires that may arise that they don’t have the time nor the resources to help others. Similarly many of these countries depend on nations such as the US to help feed their economy through international trade. By helping out those nations that the US has place economic sanctions on then they will also suffer. Im not saying blame the US, blame the US, because the US support or lack thereof is only a facet in the myriad of problems that have led to the current situation around the world. What I am saying is that we need to reevaluate our foreign policy. If the US is to assume the role of International Policeman then it must be fair and unbiased. It cannot leave problems in one are unsolved and focus all of its resources and attention in one small area. You cannot dole out billions of dollars to one country whose economy has no need for it, while at the same time denying food, shelter, and protection for millions of innocent people in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North as well as South America.

Why aren’t those people dressed from head to toe the racists?
Why am I called a racist if I disagree with some that dress from head to toe and don't even learn my language IN MY OWN COUNTRY?
Earlier I asked a question if you would join arms against your old country? fmx2md you had no answer. You were born here but your parents may have brought you up with their old views about America. I don't even teach my children my old language. When they grow up they can, if they choose too but first I want them to be Americans. Nobody is asking you to forget your folklore or religion but when I took my citizenship oath there were a few people in there dressed from head to toe needing a translator...now that's a slap in the face not even talking the time to learn the language? Put your rag back was aimed at this kind of people not necessarily to you. Believe me I know this country is build on immigrants but there is an American standard too and we have a folklore too. So I find it untrustworthy to see people from other countries dressing from head to toe and claim they are Americans. They don't associate with us; some don't even speak the language and their actions speak otherwise. If I criticize their religion I know if they could they would put a bullet in my head. God is always in my heart with me and, I don't need to pray five times a day so he can stay with me. And one more thing why is it that in my old country all Arabs were viewed as untrustworthy? I feel it’s the same in this country too. From my own experience here and there I have to agree and has nothing to do with religion, as you may want to believe.

Bin Laden or who ever is behind the bombing seems to have won in a bigger way than they imagined.

Just listen to the comments posted here. Most comments are coming from American against American’s. STOP IT. It’s time to band together.

Everyone has a right to his or her opinion and although I personally do not agree with many things said I believe they have a right to say it. This is a fish forum and I am glad that people can talk about whatthey are feeling but I think it is time to lay this to rest. Lets on concentrate on what we can all do to either a) ensure this never happens again, anywhere in the world or b) help the people that need help. I think the governments of the world will make the appropriate decision on how to deal with the guilty.

fmx2md: I will depart this conversation because you are not rational. Please do not impune over two decades of my personal service (in uniform) to the United States of America. You are an arrogant, spoiled child lacking the intellegence and sensitivity to comfort your fellow Americans during this time of great pain. I am glad my doctor is more perceptive and compassionate. What you feel in your heart now and how you conduct yourself as an American right now will define the rest of your life. Think long and hard before you treat others with such disrespect. You will need to earn your respect as a citizen of the United States. Be mindful of the struggles all immigrants have endured and get that chip of entitlement off your shoulder. That BS simply won't work for you anymore. Shalom

The history of the Middle East has shown us that it is an area of the world that seems to be in constant turmoil with brother nations fighting each other. All of this fighting didn't just begin as soon as the US, USSR and Israel became involved, it was going on long before that. Your answers to my questions, it would appear to me, are still centered around finding a scapegoat for the Middle East problems. I will word my question differently this time and see if we can indeed shed a little more light on this area of the world. If all the nations of the world ignored the Middle East, what do you think the result would be?

Greetings, everyone. May peace be with you all. Now is the time for all good people around the world (BILLIONS of good decent people) to come together and defeat our common enemy. Dave Lin: Please have no regrets. Although our views might be different (you too fmx2md) we are showing our passion for each other by having dialog albeit somewhat uneasy. We will stand together and grow enormously as people and Americans through these tests. Please accept my humble and sincere apologies for any judgemental or legalistic opinions on my behalf. I have every confidence that our leaders will respond in ways to these threats that will eliminate our personal desires to lash out. I also have every confidence in our quite well armed civilian population that we can deal with any threats against us that civil authorities can't handle. Offer your neighbors protection if they feel threatened. Please do not allow this kind of wickedness in your own neighborhoods. Emotions run very deep and this is a strength not a weakness. May God's Grace be with us all as we deal individually and collectively with these most troubling issues. Vengence is the Lord's work. We have a lot of other work to do so we better get busy. Love thy neighbor and KNOW your enemy. Keep a watchful eye on your own streets and in your own cities and do not take the law into your own hands as the assault on America advances. Stay smart. Stay alert. Stay safe. Pray for our armed services as they carry out assigned duties. Pray for our leadership.

For those of us who lost freinds and relatives in the most recent attacks: Peace be with you as you struggle to comprehend what has happened. My family has been deeply affected and our pain intensifies because we can't find bodies to lay to rest. We hear you. We love you. May God bless you all and may God bless America.
