This is the simplest, and easiest there is.

You don't even need the Tee on the outside to quiet it. It needs to be around 45 degrees, you don't cement it to the bulkhead, just stick it in there. That way you can move it up and down and fine tune the water level.

The picture I posted is simplicity itself.

The screen won't clog unless you ignore it for months and months on end. Heck, I didn't clean it for at least 4 months and the only thing that happened is the water level in the main tank went up about a quarter of an inch.

When you shut the pump off it only drains to the bottom of the little screen thing.

The only thing I didn't like about it was it looks gaudy having white pvc in an all blue tank....

Bry, I think people are painting their PVC with spray paint. I believe they use Krylon Fusion. I could be wrong so I'd check first.

I am hitting Walmart and some other stores today. I'm betting I find a perfect overflow that is smoked and molded and will look awesome. At least that's what I'm telling myself. :)

I think US Plastics sells Black PVC. Might look better than white.

OK, here's what I found at Walmart. It measures about 5" deep by 8" high by 8" wide.

I can cut the depth by almost two inches but I'm not sure it's worth the extra work. Whattya think? After you look at it I'll tell you what it is. :)

That's beautiful

You can cut off just one part of the end.

That way it would be about 5 inches wide, and as deep as you want, what maybe 2-3 inches deep? and you just make it tall enough so that it goes from below your bulkhead to the top of the tank.

That is just perfect man

Get cuttin!

It is. Others are telling me the pressure will make it crack. Won't the pressure be pretty equal since it will fill with water to a point?

What pressure?

There is no pressure

Are you going to have it go to the bottom of your tank? Or just below your overflow?

the pressure on a container that small in a tank is really not that great, I don't think its an issue at all.

Of course if your tank was 8 feet deep and you were putting the overflow all the way to the bottom it would be worth thinking about....

Cut er up man, comeon I wanna see some chips flyin!

Do you have a dremel?

If not, do you have a rotozip?

If not do you have a hacksaw? It will be slow but far better than a regular handsaw

the last thing I can think of is a jigsaw, you need a metal cutting blade though, and the saw needs to have a magic circle in it (one of those things so you don't get rip out while cutting)

You don't have a band saw do you? I'd cut it on mine but its a bit of a drive.......

If you could get a wire hot enough you could cut it with a wire -- don't try that, it sounds dangerous although I think it would be fun
