I have asked adn some decent recomendations but the LFS's dont carry them. I thought aof a fairy wrasse and the only 2 I have seen both had ick ot looked half dead.

Clowns are OK.

The tang idea is good but they only sell yellow, purple and hippo tangs.

the blennies I have seen are boring or dont swim around.

The psuedo chromis are cool looking but hide all the time.

Rob, spring for a foster & smith fish order. Guaranteed for 14 days, and they have a great selection.

I don't like to hype them up, but the guarantee is good.

Peace,

Chip

So, none of you LFS do special order? I'm sure one them wouldn't mind ordering for you. Heck, even PetCo does that

Check with Chip on the LPS market. Stuff like micromussa, blastos, and chalices are nice. The true Watermelon Chalice still fetches around $200 for a half inch. The only acans worth splurging on nowadays are the maxima and bowerbanki.

In your location, you'll likely have to get the colorful stuff online, but definitely hit your store up for a Flame Fin Tang:

Karl, you would've been heartbroken to see the tomini I saw the other day. Just scouting out stores in driving distance of my new digs, I found one with horrid-looking fish. Dead, diseased, thin, etc, etc. They had one fish that looked 100%. Amongst the horrid ones was a beautiful 5" tomini. Popeye in one eye, frayed fins, disoriented.

I felt horrible and got the hell out of there.

Peace,

Chip

I respectfully disagree with my esteemed colleague. :)

Maxima and bowerbankii are the holy grails, but will run you $350/500 per polyp for the non-browns.

However, there are non-Indo lords & micros out there if you want them. Also some of the recent echinatas thru the pipe are spectacular and different.

Ditto with a lot of the chalices and zoanthids. There have been some spectacular morphs appearing, and people will sell you frags quite readily.

Peace,

Chip

Heh, usually this is when people decide to upgrade to bigger tanks... I got bored and got the SPS bug and got bored again and now I have a 125 sitting in my dining room that I'm in the process of ugrading to.

If you're bored I'd suggest putting something new in there for sure and have never had a bad experience w/ reefermadness.us or liveaquaria.com. They always have something I want...

I ordered this for my little 72 and it just came in this weekend..
H.melanurus.jpg

Its been at my LFS for at least 4 days now, might pick it up today. :D

So... - I'm confused.. - Your LFS can't special order stuff for you?? :?
Or... - Do you not want them to because they don't know what they're doing?

The tank looks nice Rob. You might want to add a stag or two to give the tank a little height. In a couple of months when things really get growing it will be better.

GratefulDiver - the LFS's around me do not have a clue. They think aiptasia is a rare/exoctic anenome.

Thats a nice fish there.

I think the tank needs more color and fill in the back maybe. I just cant justify paying $100 for a 1/2 inch piece of a coral.

Sorry for not being as clear as I wanted to, Karl. :) I can see where my post was confusing. I meant there are other acans worth splurging on nowadays...not just bower and maxima.

Peace,

Chip

Who has ordered fish online in the hot summer? The package would probably sit in my condo hallway until I got home from work. Same for corals? I would think the fish would be more cricitcal of shipping.
