Awesome! :D

I saw a Discovery show on this, i think. The acrylic panes came from Colorado?

Unbelievable setup. Can't wait to see it develop.

Any idea what they'll do for flow?
A few thousand Vortex?

Reynolds is in Colorado, so I assume those panels came from there :)

I thought the largest Reef tank is from the Atlanta’s Georgia Aquarium, Aquarium’s Ocean Voyager exhibit, a 6.2 million gallon habitat with 33 feet deep

As far as I understand the reef tank at Atlanta is 160k. The Ocean Voyager exhibit (the 6 million gallon one) does not contain corals.

need an update on this project. it has been hours!
more pics please!

thanks for sharing.

These are actually fairly old pictures. Right now there's a roof over this thing, it's been leak tested, and they are going to start constructing macro rockwork (arches, caves, etc) out of concrete very soon. I'll be sure to get pics of that very soon.

Keep in mind some of this stuff is going to remain non-public until opening day. :D

Luckily we have an inside source that will tell us even though the "general public" won't be privy

How about to members of the Aquarium? Do we get a sneak peek?? :D

And I can see those Georgia people one upping us by putting one stock of xenia in their tank and calling it a 6 million gallon reef!

When I'm out that way for the 2008 AGU, I expect full behind the scenes coverage!

A more recent photo of the interior. The acrylic is boarded up to prevent any scratching. Note the ladders and 5 g buckets for scale. The piping you see are some of the intake strainers for the closed loops.

What buckets!? :D

There's an upside down one on the lowest level. You can see a bright orange circle spray painted on the concrete, it's just below that.

There is another 5G bucket upside down on top of the tall intake stack to the very left. Just to the right of the budda belly window. It sure does give you a good interpretaion of how big that piping really is.

Thales,
Make sure you dont get your leg sucked into one of those intakes on one of your future volunteer window cleaning dives if they allow it. :D
