Matt thanks for the show. You are lucky to be involved in such a project. What is a ballpark budget for this.
Ooooh, that's info I wouldn't know and couldn't tell ya if I did.
The budget for the entire building is around 400 million. But that includes lots of stuff like a 6 story rainforest, planetarium, etc...
Our scheduled opening date is "Fall 2008" at the moment.
Here's a pic of the "experimental" tank that's going now. 20,000 gallons and around 18 feet deep. One of the main purposes of this tank was to see if it was possible to artificially light corals in a tank of this depth. We have some H. magnifica anemones at the very bottom that seem to be quite happy, as well as some stony corals like Montipora and Echinopora that are growing. It's lit by several 1kW and 2kW lights.
The fish list is right around 250 fish at the moment, with a goal of 400. Some of the highlights on the fish list that I can remember off the top of my head:
Pomacanthus imperator (huge adult)
Naso vlamingi (full grown)
(2) lituratus
unicornis
Siganus guttatus
punctatus (full grown, soft coral muncher)
(10-15?) unimaculatus
Lots of Acanthurus spp.
(2) leucosternon
(5) japonicus
(2) achilles
sohal (fully grown)
(5) lineatus (still juveniles)
mata or xanthopterus, still not sure.
Ctenochaetus spp.
(11) tominiensis
(6) strigosus
Zebrasoma spp.
(6?) scopas
(6?) flavescens
(12) Paracanthurus hepatus
Somewhere in the neighborhood of
(90) Chromis viridis
(90) Pseudanthias squamipinnis (lots of males, changing females, etc.)
(4) male Pseudanthias pleurotaenia
(6) P. tricolor
(6) Caesio teres (Fusiliers, awesome hardy fish and we're going to get many many more)
A pair of Harlequin tuskfish
A pair of Niger triggers
A harem of Genicanthus lamarckii
Same of G. melanospilos
A full grown lunare wrasse
A full grown clown trigger
Marine betta that hides all the time
A couple squirrelfish
3 cleaner wrasses
One Halichoeres chrysus
3 each of Chaetodon kleini and miliaris
Chelmon rostratus
A family of 8 or so ocellaris clowns that share an enormous H. magnifica that split.
2 clark's clowns
A maroon clown
that's all I can think of right now....
