When I first started an account here on MR and I was new to this forum, I was afraid to ask questions. As a new member I felt inferior to senior members because I felt like the senior members and Mods knew a lot more and I did not want to ask a question and get bashed or feel stupid. Granted the senior members and mods might know a lot because they have been in the hobby longer and probably have more experience, however that does not make them right all the time and does not give them a reason to bash a members post.

If a member puts up a question about an item, coral, fish, etc, let's just try to answer it as best as possible, this is not hard. The reason why a member is posting is because they need assistance, not non-sense or drama for that matter. If we don't have the answer then don't post. It is that simple.

The reason why all of us joined was because we all had questions about certain things at one point or another and needed help. Everyday I see the same and most of the senior members and semi newer/senior members like myself on the board, but where are the new members that just joined recently or a few months back. Yeah there looking a reading posts because that is what I use to do before I joined but I don't see most them posting and I know they have questions because I did. There is no need to bash someone's thread.

If MR is suppose to feel like a family and welcoming new members to the site, then in all honesty it does not feel that way. With all the Drama and non-sense that happens on this site, it is a miracle that there are even members. Just my 2 cents. Sorry...

When I peruse this site, I put on my filter sock which traps out most of the detritus. What slips thru is usually extracted via my refractionator, then I can adsorb the beneficial morsels & use the site to my benefit, while trying to help others when I can. :)

:agree:

Very few people read every post. As with any many "families", the larger it gets, the more likely "bad seeds" will become a part of the tree. It's inevitable.

I normally try not to respond to these kind of posts, but I must say - if you are worried about drama, then why write the kind of post that will only add fuel to the fire? What exactly does this post seek to accomplish? That is not meant to be an insult, but genuine food for thought. Personally, I just try to set an example of how I want to be treated in my treatment of others.

New or old whatever the case, I try to read every post however I can say that some people irk me therefore I try not to post in their threads or even read them. Some people have entire forums that I won't even look at cause they irk me.

MR was built on honesty and that is important here. People are honest with advice and some are not willing to listen because they are looking for validation not truth. They see the one yes and ignore 99 no responses and see the problems later. Simply put it gets ugly when people disregard the help they are given and then do what they want to anyway.

If you're gonna do that don't ask for help and don't post a panic thread when things go wrong. People hate to be told "NO" and they really hate "I told you so".

All in all MR is a good site barring a few exceptions.

Sorry to quote you but no need for me to retype the same thing. And always ask the person giving his 2 cents if it is ACTUAL experience or just something he read off another post?

Hopefully this is not directed to me, because buddy I don't know you and you certainly don't want to know me. I've heard alot about you and yeah you might know your stuff and can afford to buy high end gear, but guess what, so can I...

i see the same thing Ray. someone ask a question and you get 15 varieties of the answer. just because you dont dp what someone says doesnt mean you didnt take it into consideration. one person swear's by this way and another swears by that way. doesnt mean either is completely right or wrong. if it wasnt for trial and error there wouldnt be new discoveries. i bumped heads with a few members when i started, on my opinion's or thing's i wanted to try. but i moved on. and brendon i agree, theres a few people i dont read their post cause i want to just smack them in the head. then there's other's no matter what they say is like god is speaking { ask them how many tanks they have crashed } really what i get from his post is try being a little more polite with replies. they dont know and are asking a question and want several opinion's. NOT just YOURS. and alot of people get scared off or afraid to ask a question. i have a guy that works with me been a members for 5 months and never made a pst because of those reasons. i personally have 3 people i call if something doesnt seem right or differant and have never rcieved bad info. ty jim, richie and dave :shhh:

Buying high end or not have nothing to do with anything. If you can pay to play, you should go ahead and do so instead of asking people that may not have even seen all the skimmers avilible for their opinion

People give their 2cents when people ask questions, regardless if they know anything about the topic.

Go back and re-read my posts in your Deltec thread and the skimmer thread, see if I am giving people true experiance or just what I read off another person's opinion.

Personally I like having Cali on the board. He has owned lots of equipment and his pretty vocal about his experiences with it. When I go to make a high end purchase I value his personal first hand experience with the equipment I'm considering. He also usually gives me additional recommendations like "If you're willing to spend that much money you're better off with....". After all the only thing worse than spending money once is spending money twice.

Another good thing about Cali is he only comments on equipment that he has personally used. Not many people on this board do that which I think was his point in his post.

Fred I agree with you. I hear alot of good things about Cali, don't get me wrong. I also hear he is the person to ask about the higher end stuff because chances are he has had an opportunity to try them. I am just stating the last part of his comment, about the 2 cents if it is actual or not.

Cali don't take that the wrong way, I do respect your opinions...

Ray,

I have to echo what deanos said - with any community, there is a certain amount of sepration that happens when the community gets larger - MR is not exempt from that feeling.

An observation I have made, since the inception of MR, is that there is always a certain amount of "punch in the arm" welcome from membership - sometimes this is meant to be encouraging, and, unfortunately doesn't come across as such in a 2 dimensional community - you can't read a person's affect or tone through their typing.

We all continue to try and be welcoming, but it doesn't always come across that way.

I joined a little over a year ago and at that time I was told this place was so much better. For example members had barbecue's and invited everybody. If you posted a question it was answered nicely and efficiently and the replies usually involved someone offering to help you.
When I first joined the site, indiviual forums had the same threads all day in the front, nowadays if your not on all the time you might miss something. This site has grown in members, good and bad ones. Over the years you make friends and impossible to think when the root is saltwater but you can make enemies here, especially if money is involved but that case is unusual, it is more the case that other members start to dislike others because of opinions and yeah eventually a clique is created. This site is a saltwater communty forum and it is just like any other social community there are cliques at my job, there are cliques in my building (and I have to cover myself and throw in a defensive move because Daceman is probably watching but he has a special clique tooooo ask Him) .... at the end it's all in the indiviual and how they absorb things. To me the site is still good, changed but good compared to other forums. Remember change is constant and nothing stays the same forever especially with people involved.

P.s. I started writing this on notepad before house replied but sort of along the same lines and the tone of my post is Wusa! Breathe in, Breathe out.
