I would check out greenwich aquaria, then house of fins. they are about 15 minutes apart in CT.

Here on MR and Absolutely Fish in Clifton, NJ but avoid Fishtown USA like the plague.

Definitely here on MR. Where else can you find LPS, SPS, Softies etc.
Anything you need or want you can find and it is only a short drive away to a vendor's location or another member's.
Looking for equipment, it's out there. All you need to do is look in the For Sale forum. Plenty of vendors are there. I have not met one vendor that disappointed.

Absolutely Fish is the best on the Jersey Side IMO

If you're gonna hike out to Suffolk County on LI go to Country Critters - prices are steep, but quality and diversity are excellent. 15 minutes North of CC is Aqua Hut; kinda like Fishtown without the lousy rep and a much larger selection. They can be hit or miss, but usually have nice stuff.

NY Aquarium Services if you want coral or larger fish. They have the best frag collection in the city IMHO.

just curious why you would avoid fishtown? i don't go there much and certainly there are WAY better places in Queens but they sell sexy shrimp for like $6 so that's why I go. Dry goods occasionally.

Reasons why fishtown is bad:

1) They have been racist to numerous MR members and current/non-current employees.

2) They don't even quarantine there live stock. Most of the stuff there is dying or will die, even if it looks healthy.

3) Horrible customer service.

4) Overpriced dry goods.

5) Bad representation of how to keep a healthy aquarium. Ex. They put a yellow tang in a 6 gallon nano cube.

Agreed! Top Notch. Going to see the display tank in Greenwich Aquaria is worth the trip alone.

It may not be a real "big" store by size, but www.nyaquatic.com (Michael Stern here on MR) has a very nice selection of fish and great prices too.

Country Critters is over rated. They have a great selection of healthy fish but the corals are wayyyy over priced. The only nice corals they have are the ones they wont sell, go figure. The customer service is terrible, they treat you as if they are doing you a favor.

If you drive out to the island you can see a couple of stores, they all have their pros and cons but here is a short list:

Country Critters
Suffolk County Fish and Reef
Petswarehouse
Mutts and Butts
Aquahut
Aquarium design network

I really feel all of these stores lack good coral selections. Other members and online stores have much better selections and variety.

Ill cast another vote for Absolutly Fish here in jersey. They have a really good selection of healthy live stock (lots of corals) in very well maintained tanks. The staff is extreamly knowledgable and helpfull. They are a little pricey for equiptment, but stll a great store.
