Marco Rock cure question..

Ok,I will finally be getting my long anticipated order ...I know it is dead rock and was once live rock and will have dead stuff in it so of course I will not just plung it all into my tank ...so how should I go about curing it ?I figured seperate garbage pail with some old tank change water and do small water changes every 3rd day or so until level reach acceptable levels? Any suggestions on if this would work or what way to do it?:tub: Thanks ,Sal

I cycled my tank with it and it only took a week to go from clear to bright yellow to clear again.

I cured mine in a seperate tun took awhile I didn'tdo any water changes I think that slows down the curing but thats just me and it really smelled up the house .

I put mine in a garbage can with a berlin skimmer. I also did a weekly water change.
You must make sure to keep a window open because the smell is really bad. I put in my tank after 2 weeks and everything was fine.

definitely cure it in a seperate container. there will still be an ammonia spike, etc. While you are curing, use a phosban reactor. I have found that there are alot of phosphates in the marco rocks. If you pull the PO4 out of the rock before you add them to your tank you will prevent algae issues.

I was gonna do it in a seperate pail with a skimmer a powerhead and a heater hooked up, is a heater needed? I guess I will pick up another reactor also I dont wanna pull mine out of my display to use....

I'd say just put it in a pail with a power head and heater and leave it for a few weeks just top off RO water to compensate for evaporation. You really don't even need a heater unless your pail is somewhere the water may freeze. Since it's winter I'd recommend a heater. No skimmer not phosban reactor just time and water movement. It's good quality rock I started my tank off it and did get a big ammonia spike but it looks really good now.

I live by the east river. I was thinking of just dropping some in for a couple weeks seeing if that would work.

I just left mine with a power head. But again I didn't need it for a couple of months so it just sat there like that. It's really nice rock you'll be really happy with it.

Sounds like what I will do since my tank has been up and running about 2 months now ...I can just wait will it cures fully ina seperate container...Thanks
