I was out in Long Island the other day, shopping for some SPS and inside of this shops frag tank I came across a Purple Tang, about 3" at most ... she had the most minor case (barely visible) of HLLE ... no biggie ... I brought the guy over to ask him, first would they sell it ... they were hesitant at first just because the fish wasn't 100% ... I said it's really not a problem ... so he agreed ... he stood looked at it ... then gave me a price ... $35 ... that was it ... I took him ... doing very nicely in my tank ... eats like a pig and is now best friends with my Clown Tang. I have seen the fish sell these days from $120-250 (RIDICULOUS). I even saw a shop in NJ sell one with a bad case of HLLE for $90.

Pics to come ... the lights are still off. :D

Please share your stories ... interesting to see what people have come across.

I have a similar story where an adult blue face angel had suffered through a bout of HLLE and just didin't look as good as a usual blue face angel. But he was a good size and was eating in the LFS, so I purchased him........for $40.

Much like you David I could not believe my ears. He is still doing well. He spent the first 4 months in my 150 and has since been moved to a bigger tank at my parents.

In brooklyn there is a place on 8th ave in the high 40's street This guy has some great prices I think he makes the prices by the mood he in you can go one day the price for somthing could be $75 the next day it could be $20 Its worth checking out...

my darling dave....i just have to edit a few details in regards to the discovery of "jasmine the purple tang" hope you don't mind :tongue1:

1-it was and was not long island. everyone knows that long island is shaped like a fish. this "local" (yea right!) fish store was located at the tippy tip tip of one of the tails and since we went at night it felt as if we were driving in to the abyss of nowhere.

*those of you who drive, this "lfs" was off of exit 987234987234786 on the L.I.E.

2-the discovery:
inside this lovely little store located in the middle of nowhere (i swear, i've lived on long island my whole life i honestly never knew these towns existed...that's how far out we were.) had many many rows of beautiful corals and fish. dave and i strolled through them and we saw a tank that was not lit. it was a frag tank and just as we were about to pass on by, a little fish with a distinct yellow tail popped his little head out. i froze for a sec, grabbed dave's shirt and went "is that a purple tang?! is that a purple tang?!?" the grabbing of his shirt became a violent shake "is that a purple tang?! is that a purple tang?!" anyways, before dave could say anything or answer me with a simple yes or no i ran to get one of the employees and dragged him to that frag tank to inquire about the price. him and dave spoke and the rest is history... :tongueani

3-actually cooper, dave moved from fishaholicism to colony-ism (not saying it's better especially not for the bank accounts but just f.y.i....lol). he just had purple tang-itis for as long as he has had the 90 gallon up and running. we love you dave and here for moral support!! :iamwithst

Juv. Yellowtail coris wrasse 2.75 inches 20 bucks. Aquarium adventure. Bought him while he was stil in the bag. I guess the kid that helped me didnt know the right price. Oh Well. God knows I overpaid for many many thigs at A.A. before I had any knowledge of what things cost . So Steal----- Maybe some will think so. But seller Beware
