Hey guys,

I was in the Bloomberg building recently and was greeted to the site of a beautiful reef tank. I think it was starfire, maybe 125 or a little more. Absolutely gorgeous. So it turns out that they maintain these fishtanks EVERYWHERE in the building. Many on every floor! If the one I saw is indicative of the quality of the tank, it is an amazing piece of work.

Well anyway, does anyone know who maintains and set up those tanks? I would like to personally congratulate them on a job wonderfully done!

I knew someone who worked there, they told me about the tanks.
they said there was one at each staircase inside the office space and a little space to sit and watch the tanks. they were encouraged to spend a bit of time looking at them. pretty cool. they also said Bloomberg was a ball buster though when it came to his work ethic's.

Work Ethics

Jhale,

I can easily believe that about Bloomberg. Their structure is very interesting though. No titles, no offices. Free food everywhere. More selections than any 5 vending machines you can put together (30 different kinds of chips, cereals, soda, noodles, dinner and they shift the foods all the time). I heard that he uses the food as a tactic to keep employees a little happier. I could just look at the tanks though!

i put the building up with the rest of my fellow brother ironworkers local 40

LOL! Its like half of us work for him and the other half use his technology. Scary!

I would like to invoke the fifth ammendment.

Chiefmcfuz, that's interesting. I heard something similar from from someone else just previously. What did you not like abou the tanks?

Free food and multiple tanks you're encouraged to sit and watch? I gotta give Mike B. some props on those. I've worked for several corporations and they were ball-busters too and said - sometimes in so many words - we were lucky to have jobs. No free food, no diversions.

He wants to bring back the commuter tax for people coming to work in the city but yet he hires a company from N.J. to set up and mantain his tanks. Not a fan of him as a N.Y.C. firefighter he has told us to do more with less and is about to close some more firehouses.I hope that no one dies when this happens. He has done this before and people have died because of this.Sorry just needed to vent.......

In my co in Shanghai I set up a full bar with lots of snacks and an entertainment section for my software engineers. Tank was in there also. I for one preferred to stay in the office over my apartment and 7 out of ten developers stayed there about 18 hrs a day the others only went home cause they were married.

Providing a good atmosphere that caters to the basic needs and more really does boost productivity at least three fold. One thing I can say about the Chinese developers and myself included, we were alot more creative with beer in our system and a full belly. I regulary cooked in the office for a family style sit down for dinner which also served as briefing time.

After I had all that fun stuff installed my customers really noticed the quality of work surpassed that of the competition which led to the co getting purchased by a corporation in 2000. They ofcourse had a no drinking policy and made so many changes to make the place more "corporate style" that all the best programmers left.

Ezee I have been in the lobby once and I like the tank Idea. Maybe mayor mike should put tanks in every firehouse, precinct, and ems base so we can relax more after he takes the credit for us making the city cleaner and safer. Mayor mike needs to do more with his brain and stop asking everyone else to do more with less. TIM I agree 1000% with you!!! Because mayor mike's got the knob on the first engine right? He's the first car on the scene at the gun run in bushwick? He's doing CPR on the 5 year old who got hit by the car in midtown? :banghead:  GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloomberg

Chiefmcfuz and Tim,

I think Bloomberg has good point and bad ones, too (like all of us). I don't necessarily agree with his politics, and definitely don't believe that he always does the right thing for the majority of the people in this city. He is definitely in a position to become a very influential figure in NYC municipal government and I think we will be seeing him around for a while.

I don't blame y'all for venting either. It sucks to have someone who you feel is unsympathetic have a chokehold on your livelyhood and in some cases, others lives. Vent on baby!
