Hi All,

Looking for someone in the Bethpage, LI area who would be willing to stop by my new home in the next few days to look at my setup and advise me on the proper setup of my sump. NOT looking for you to do the work for me but to simply give advice.

I've been doing some research online but I just don't feel confident about doing it myself.

I can pay you $50 for your time.

Thanks

Do you have the sump already set up and just looking for reassurance that you have it plumbed correctly? I'll pm you my cell number, call me this afternoon, if I'm in the area I'll take a look, no charge.

help with 1st sump please?

Thanks to all to responded. I know I'm getting back to this late but my new equipment just came in.

I guess in the end I'll tell myself the $50 was well spent as it appears it would have taken a lot of work to get my existing equipment working properly and I still would have had a significant leak risk using an over flow box and not a RR tank.

Anyway, I've moved on. I purchased a new RR 65 gallon tank and a MegaFlow 3 sump from Pet's Warehouse in LI. I've only been to the place a few times but I get a good vibe there and everyone seemed very helpful. They delivered my equipment this evening!

I'm including pics of my tank as it is now (1 yr old but recently moved into our new home) ...in need of much work. Also of the new tank and sump. So far all I can think that I need to pickup for this rig is a ball valve for the return line but as I haven't begun my work yet I wanted to get as much advice as I can for how to best utilize this sump.

Any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated. I've read enough to know the bioballs should probably go but I'd like to maybe add a refuge and wondered if there are any other valves or other plumbing considerations I'm missing? I have a new 700gph submersible pump ready to go for it.

I can't afford to shell out any more $$ for visits but if there's someone out there near Bethpage that is bored and would want to stop in to give advice on setup I'd gladly provide beer and snacks.

Thanks!

So how does it look so far? Can that drain hose be as long as it is (slack) or should it be shortened? Skimmer OK where it is? Let me know what you all think?

Thanks!

Nahh man the Drain needs to be shouldnt be that long it needs to be shortened a lil or it will make too much noise. The skimmer looks good it will save up a lot of space

I agree. shorten the return line. I would clamp them too. Also you posted that you were going to get a checkvalve for your return line. You do not need one. have fun.

Why no check valve on the return? IMO they're a great piece of mind especially if you like to keep your sump filled to the max.

Also, you don't plan on putting the bioballs back in do you? And if you could, it would probably be better to put the skimmer somewhere in the middle portion if it's possible, maybe hang it from the back of the sump

Lose the brass, also, you may want to put live rock where the bioballs were and , the noise may drive you crazy. (I started out using a wetdry when I had my 55 MANY years ago and that was my biggest problem) Also, create a "lip" an inch below the top where the return connects and put another piece of eggcrate (so that it sits on top of the rock) then you can keep a filterpad there so that it serves as a "filter sock"
