Well it is day 3 now with no power! Everything that could have gone wrong as far as equipment failing happened. Power went out at my house 530pm sat. When I got home from work my battery backup from vortech was not working. Luckily I have a battery backup from my computer. I plugged my vortech's in with 2 air stones( one for each tank) and had that last for an hour. Sunday morning I opened up home depot and was luck enough to get one of their last generators (900$) but hey as a dedicated reefer I had to buy it as I had no idea when the power was coming on. And I am sure glad I did or everything would be dead. Now after 3 days and almost 150$ in gas coned has told me that if I'm lucky they will have power back by Thursday. Now keep in mind I have no heat being my furnice is electric start. Now my house is 50 degrees. Also coned doesn't work the way they used to. They used to work on a job non-stop until the problem was fixed. Now they have these guys that come from Virginia, work 8 hours, and leave. Their attitude is we'll fix it when we fix it! Sorry for the post. I just needed to vent!!!!!!

Sorry To Hear About That!

pdnyc69,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I keep hearing the horror stories about those who unfortunately lost power during this recent storm. ConEd doesn't seem like they were before. Like you stated they used to work around the clock until the loss of power issues were resolved. Now they say you're lucky if we have every thing back on by Thursday :irked: I'm glad to hear that you were able to get a generator and limit your losses somewhat. Hang in there hopefully as the temperature rises during this week it will bring some relief to your tank and household.

Good Luck :fish:

You're not alone... I have the same issue. I also have a generator and it's keeping everything running. I may not get power back till Saturday!!!

I am assuming you have an Oil furnace. If that is the case, it's very easy to hook up to the generator. Some even have a emergency connection for you to connect to yourself. If not, call your service guy and pay to hook it up.

Sorry to hear this.Goodluck with everything. My power went on after 16 and a half hours and thankfully I had no losses!Temp dropped to 64. I was ready to pack up all my corals and drive them to my inlaws in Brooklyn and set up a temporary tank there.
As for Con ed they will claim they are swamped but we all know that's bull. With the amount of money they charge us they should have more crews out there.

I got rid of my tank right on time....:happysad:

No power since Sat & it just came on. This is the longest I've ever been without power. No heat either. Generators were all sold out around my area.
I was pretty damn calm. The wife noticed it too. I recall times power flickered & I was bouncing off the walls worried about the tank.

Working around the clock? Yea right. I guess they consider workers putting up caution tape & looking at the wire for 3 days "working around the clock."

Good luck guys.

Just went home for lunch and to check the gas in my generator...

Con-Artist, I mean Con-Ed is doing a NEW INSTALL around the block from my house!!! They have a whole crew there installing new (underground service) to a brand new mini-mansion just going up!!! WTF!!! I still have no power. Why are these guys not working on the power outage!!!

All the News4 trucks around westchester... I am going to try and grab one and have them (on camera) talk to the supervisor...

Had no power from Sat 6pm until 11am yesterday. No heat in the house and temp inside was 60-65. Had to put hot water ziploc gallon bags in the tank to keep the tank to roughly 70 degrees. Fish and softies seem to be ok so far, but the few pieces of SPS and monti frags don't seem like they'll make it.

Good luck with it!

Good luck with that ... doubt anyone will honestly give a $h!T ... but it's worth a try right?

"CON" Ed ... is definitely difficult to deal with ...

We have been fairly lucky in Queens ... haven't lost power ... only minor flooding (in my damn apartment ...) ... Freaked out ... thought the tank sprung a leak! Had to move everything off of the floor.

Im in the same boat only I allready had my generator, But its been 4 days going on 5 days with no juice. ConEd is not paying overtime to do any repair work. The builers work is more of a priority because its Privite money and they get much more money for the same work. It has been on the news that cities are planning to create a wrongfull lawsuit against ConEd for there lack of commitment on resoring power to there customers.
My tank is only 75% running, no halides no wave makere ect

FWIW All of you bashing The Con Ed workers in the street its not there fault... The job locations have absolutely nothing to do with them they go where they are sent ( I know i work for con ed in Manhattan ) so if your going to raise hell Which i would too and agree with you dont do it to the workers in the street its not there fault and they have enough to worry about considering they are working with LIVE electricity in a confined space. Grab a supervisor make a phone call just dont come down on the crews in the street its not there fault

Thanks, Ryan
