IMO there are more important things to spend money on than fancy salt and when you have a big tank you go through tons of the stuff.

Traces of phosphate? Not a big deal considering you add traces of phosphate every time you feed. Calcium, Alk, and Mg? I consume alot of that no matter what salt I'm using so I am still dosing regardless of salt.

In other words, I use the cheap stuff (reef crystals).

d&d pro is the best salt i have used and i have tried most of them, oceanic, esv, reef crystals, io, red sea coral pro which would be my swcond favorite, i base this on levels consistant and when i do a water change how my corals react, loved the esv but i dont do 50g wc and hate sitting there after it miss's testing it and seeing if i need to add 1 part or 2 of them to get levels up

I heard D&D was also a great salt. I have not had to dose anything or lower or raise any of my ESV yet. So far everything is checking out good as far as levels are concerned. But I only have a 5 SPS and 3 LPS in my 65 and they are all on the small side, So nothings really eating it up. Although that will probrably change in the future.

Your mileage will vary, but I'm with NYreefNoob on the D-D H2Ocean. I've tried IO, Oceanic, Seachem Reef, and most recently (and for the longest) I was using Reef Crystals. Then last weekend someone suggested I try D-D. Initially I scoffed because of the price, but figured trying a bucket couldn't hurt. I could always go back to RC if I didn't like it.

I did a 25% water change with it after which all the corals had their polyps fully extended and the inverts were doind the happy dance. I've done a few more water changes in the past few days to get things fully switched over and see if the results hold. My critters seem very happy with it and I think I'll stick with it unless something changes.

Each tank will respond to various brands of salt differently. It depends on a lot of things including what lives in it, what you dose with, what reactors/filtration you run and how often water changes are done. Your tank will tell you what it likes best.

i was given the 50g esv and seeing i only do 10g wc it was more of a hassle for me mixing it, but then again i am lazy also, i had always used oceanic on current tank

yea I do about 15 gallons every 2 weeks, so its not really a big deal for me. After making the first batch it really is easy now as I just add the exact same amount of each item everytime.
