only bad thing about the swap was that i got there at 10:10AM and felt like I was already 4 hours late.

I told a few people this yesterday, I work as a vendor so I see it first hand, it's just the nature of the beast, if you want first dibs on corals from vendors you have to be there first thing in the am standing in line literally, no way around it ......"the early bird gets the worm" I don't mean to sound rude but that's how it works. Although, the vendors bring enough eye candy to hold over the masses for sure! and another thing, if you see a coral you like, don't think about it, jump on it or your prolly gonna miss out

Yes, I saw he wrote that, the reality is what it is, first come first served, I don't think there is a way around that unless they hold a small raffle to allow for a small group of members to enter the swap first to get dibs

Or maybe not allow sales and before 10:10 if that is what was happening but then again, agreements would be made between people. I guess you make a good point about the reality of the situation.

BTW Mike your demo's are the worst! I mean how could a demo where someone educates, entertains and answers questions with the correct answers be good? What do we all want? A demo that just sits there and does nothing? I think so!

I think you guys are taking the criticism too personal. Constructive criticism is a good thing and can only help future events. Regardless if someone who gives input on what went wrong was saying it in a snide way or not shouldn't detract from the value of what was said.

Not everyone has the luxury of time in helping out in events. For me personally, I like to be involved and help, especially when I am new to the forum but every hour I was there, I was losing money and putting myself in a difficult situation with a job i needed to complete. I am sure others also had obligations to attend.

Other than some minor issues, I thought you guys all rocked.

I will say, the main thing that interested me about this swap was speakers. I was a bit disappointed there was only the 1 speaker and demo. I understand that sh!t happens but it would be nice if maybe some of the hardcore members on here who do have some relatively good knowledge on subjects step up. Maybe next swap, you could get a few of the members to share their knowledge on specific topics? I personally feel there is never enough perspectives and new knowledge to pass up to learn.

Vendors and members already post some of what they're going to have for sale before the swap, which you could have purchased and had them hold it for you. You can also ask vendors to bring things too.

It's basically like any other convention, which is a first come first serve type event. There were a large number of vendors yesterday, I think the most we've ever had, and with the amount of livestock each has it would take some time for everyone to go around and look before vendors started selling. You also need to take into account that some people can't stay for the whole event, some need to leave early. So they get there, look fast, do their buying, and in some case, leave. Also vendors want to sell what they have, most don't want to have to repack and carry home leftovers. They can't wait and hold things for people to comeback, after thinking if that's what they wanted or not, though I'm sure a lot of them did.

Also there was plenty of livestock yesterday, outside of maybe a couple of one of a kind items, there was plenty and nobody should have been shut out.

I particularly like the "make sure you wear glasses for protection and gloves while fragging" while he's there chopping up coral like its his job wearing none of it. =0)

Mike does a great job, always entertaining and informative. The frag Demo probably wouldn't be still happening if it wasn't for him. The table is always packed.

Here's an idea for the food.

option 1:
Cash food.
Pizza, $2 a slice
Sandwich, $2
Chips$ 1
Cookies, 2/$1
Salad, $1
Soda/water $1

Singles and five-spots only. Don't show up with a $20 and get one piece of pizza. Not cool, Peter, not cool.

Option 2:
Food have ticket prices, and you buy how many tickets you want at the door. This way, you'll keep the money in one place and then people handling your food won't be touching money at the same time.

Same price scale.

Option 3.
boxed lunches. You pay $6-10 (depending on the price MR pays for it) In it is what you get. Vegetarian options, Celiac options, Kosher options available.

If you're really hungry, buy two.

Option 4.
No food for the public*. Pack your own lunch. You're most likely carrying a cooler anyhow. (Like those rockin' MR coolers that fit a 6 pack of beer perfectly,) so bring your lunch and take corals home in your cooler.
(*) Mods, vendors, speakers, and all-day volunteers get fed on MR's dime.

Constructive criticism is good but I think people need to look at the whole event and take everything into content before they start to criticize things too hard. I'm not sure it's the end of the world if you didn't get enough food, or fed right away, as a matter of fact before we started to fed the vendors there were many a swaps where I didn't get anything to eat, which I'm sure was the case for some of the vendors too. So maybe instead of criticizing things people should post improvements they think can help, and maybe even offer their services too.

That being said I'm sure that things can be improved, and as we start to prepare for the next event we do talk about what we need to do to make things better. So we do take into account what is brought up by members.

Finally, everyone involved in the planning, setup, running, and the breaking down has jobs and families, and are doing this on their free time. What you see on the day of the swap is a very small piece of all the work that goes into making one of these things happen. You also need to remember that this isn't a big organization but a bunch of hobbyist putting together an event which I think is pretty dam good.

Also a lot of convention and shows that I've been to have either have security or bouncers, most of which will tell you something one time and then physical remove you, and most of them are a lot bigger than Kathy.

It was my first swap - I had a good time. Thanks Guys.

Slama (mike) We didn't get to officially meet but I was at all your demos. I started fragging like crazy yesterday LOL Now all the corals are happy. Thanks!

Ming, Tony, Smoq - I learned alot at the LED session - it was more informational but wished there was more time for hands on demonstrations. Is there a source for the video recorded?

Vendors/MR Staff - I felt very welcomed and was blinded with the rainbows LOL Thanks again.

I'm in for another round in 6 months. ;) It only can get better..

Next swap there will be a thread started almost exactly the same as this one. If you want to help then sign up. If not then be happy and enjoy the swap. Basically "Put up or shut up!"

Brendan. Straight to the point and shoots from the hip. LOVE it.

I saw a bunch of old friends AND a bunch of first timers. There are a ton of online sales for pickup at the swap, and if you are there the night before or the the morning of to volunteer, well, of course you will get to see stuff before others. I do comic conventions throughout the year- this is exactly how these things go. Showing up early to help or the night before to set up isn't just a way to get a sneak peek at what is for sale, but it a vital part in making events like this work. It's also great to be a part of the community and connect with like-minded people.

If you were there saturday night, sunday morning, or sunday night, you know exactly what I mean- I enjoy the pre- and post- swap stuff as much as the swap itself!!!

Man some people are crazy when it comes to the food. I think some people take the I paid 25 dollars to be here way to seriously. Lunch was insane people were stacking food on their plates like they never ate before and were never going to eat again.

The only thing that sucks about the vendors eating first is when they come back into the room eating. I do believe they should be fed first but maybe they could just eat in the room and not in front of everyone.
