I agree with Inferno - it was ridiculous just reading this thread. You guys shouldn't be jumping to conclusions based on circumstantial evidence, and the tone was completely inappropriate. Even if the motives were suspicious, the approach could have been completely different and a lot less accusatory. The level of attitude is not representative of the spirit to which I have come to associate with Manhattan Reefs.

Funny thread.

Nice tank Doma. I don't think you got ripped off, but it wasn't really a deal either. It was a fairly priced purchase (unless you got LED reef lighting in which case it was a steal!).

Tropical Island in Deer Park has some really nice livestock and fair to good pricing depending on the item. Very nice selection of corals and frags. Limited fish selection.

Aqua Hut in Coram has great prices on fish and corals, but you need to have a good eye since their livestock isn't always in the best shape. They have excellent prices on all dry goods.

Pets Warehouse in Copaigue usually has a nice selection of fish. Corals are hit or miss, but their prices are fair to good. They also have great prices on most of their dry goods.

In all fairness. I have been a member for over 2 yrs. and I have never seen anyone get hit like that without sticking their chin out.
Yea sure, sometimes there are disagreements between people. But this guy just got smaked down for no reason.

Guys, why is MR starting to sounding an aol chat room. I've seen so many threads recently where people just argue. This site is supposed to be about the hobby and getting advice and asking advice from fellow reefers. It's really annoying seeing so many people arguing about dumb stuff. Relax guys, have a drink, and stare at your tank for a few. Its The best stress reliever out there. Real talk, I doubt anyone would ever talk like this in person to some of members. That's just my opinion. So love me or hate me! Ok. Now I need that drink! Hahaha!

And you are wrong. I have donated. I donate to the MR Swap raffles all the time which in the scheme of things is more money a year then I would pay in sponsorship. I have also donated as a non business, it's just my icon has been removed as as of last month it's been over a year since I last donated.

You have NO IDEA why I have not yet become a sponsor. Josh and the crew know and that is all that counts.

That's all well and good, except this college kid is excited about getting a deal at a store on a nice setup, sure he probably could have gotten cheaper or payed more elsewhere but seems to have got a reasonable price on an Oceanic setup which is usually expensive to begin with and all you guys did was rip him apart. My question to you is why? He may not be aware that the store does suck, all you have to do is try to open his eyes to the problems you guys experienced with that store not beat him over the head with UV filter.
You all should man up and do the right thing here, he's a new member and you all made the wrong assumption.

You guys jumped all over this guy....not right...TRIGGERMAN, this is mainly aimed at you! I applaud your intent, but you approach was so wrong its amazing. Did you ever consider you were wrong...if you were wrong, you might very well have cost MR a user. I like that you called the person on something, but you went way overboard with it.

Next time, try to give the person some advice, perhaps as simple as, "the prices you paid are very high" and include a link or two for the person to use and educate themselves.
