Marcellina, the recommendations being thrown around here aren't taking into account that your tank is 13' above your pump. And then on top of that you have the added resistance of your plumbing fittings. Each fitting adds approx. 1' of head pressure. At a BARE MINIMUM you have 16' of head/back pressure. The flow chart posted by reef4life (Fortunato) even shows that at 16.4' you will have zero gph. How will that pump work for you?

Every single fitting you have in your plumbing adds back pressure (only common sense), that includes unions, ball valves, couplings, 90's, 45's, locline, etc. LocLine can actually be even more restrictive if you have a severe bend in it. Just due to the design of Locline you can see how much added resistance it creates, the inside surface is rippled as opposed to smooth. All head/back pressure is, is resistance.

Please feel free to give me a call if you want to discuss any of these basic physics laws.

The best recommendation in this discussion is for you to use an external HH pump. The PanWorld, GenX, Dart/Snapper are all good economic choices.

I wouldn't suggest a Mag24 simply because of the amount of electricity it uses, the flow is little when compared to the electricity IMO (efficiency)... although HH pumps will use more electricity in general, they can shoot far higher.
Your actual height is actually calculating from the surface of the water in the sump to the top of the water in your display.

A stronger version of the water blaster you have up there is the HY-10000 with a max head of 15.5'

If you want real HH pumps, check out these
PanWorld 150PS for 1100gph up to 28'
PanWorld 200PS for 1750gph up to 39'

Sorry Ming, I stand corrected. You did recommend them, appropriately I might add.

(**** Note I miscalculated my head pressure in my first post on this thread its actually almost 10' not 13)

I don't mean this in a rude way, but at 10' plus the 3' of added resistance that would bring it to 13' of head so technically the Quiet One 9000 would work. But doesn't seem like many people like it compared to other pumps.

Thanks Mike and Russ. You both shed some more light on the subject for me. Always learning, I am glad I asked! Hopefully other people who are too shy to ask will find this thread and learn too!

Russ you gave me alot of info to take in, let me grab some coffee and come back and read it again. Then I will look at some pumps and compare them. TomTooth suggested a Mag24 pump is that a HH pump? I will research after coffee! :)
Marcella a good pump to used would be Iwaki MD55RLT

I did recommend the Panworld... felt I got shot down on going external :irked:

I never shot you down! You were the first to have me research some external ones. If I decide on external I think I would get the one you suggested, the Panworld. I've been reading its similar to the Iwaki (that RGibson mentioned) but its quieter and not as expensive.

Still not 100% sure I want to do external though. I have to do some more measuring and calculating on my end.

Everyone has psted so much useful information on here thank you so much! :grouphug:

Its sounds like a great pump and I would love for it to be quiet but one thing worries me ... I have alot of blackouts and mini blackouts or brown outs or whatever they are called here on long island. That is a major issue I have heard people talk about, that it wont restart after a blackout. I dont want to chance that.
