With my new upgrade, i purchased a grounding probe, havent installed it yet, but i want to make sure there are no cons to having one in the system? also, if my tank is on the first floor and my sump in the basement, and i put the ground in the sump, with the complete system be grounded or just the sump?

You should only use it with a GFCI outlet, that way the outlet actually trips if you have an equipment leaking electricity into your tank instead of electrocuting your tank inhabitants. But its also recommended not to put life support equipment on a GFCI outlet, or at least have a small powerhead as backup off the GFCI outlet so they still get flow if the breaker trips.

I don't use one. I prefer to just test for stray voltage occasionally.

Grounding will turn stray voltage (not deadly) into stray current (deadly)

Only use a ground probe if you have a GFCI like said above. Otherwise it's potentially dangerous to your fish or yourself.

100% Agree

When you add a ground to your tank that's when the stray electric becomes a problem to the tanks inhabitants. It basically becomes a closed circuit and gives the voltage a place to go.
If there is no ground, the stray electric isn't flowing anywhere. It is an open circuit.

I don't run my tank (a life support system) on a GFCI either.

I run one on my tank, I found out the hard way when I got zapped with 78v of stray current. And yes it's hooked into a GFCI
