I have a 175 Oceanic Bowfront and am currently running 3 400w metal halides with 2 T-5 bulbs. My electric bills in the summer are almost 700 bucks a month for a one bedroom apt. Killer.

It seems everyone is switching over to LEDs, and it seems much, much, cheaper to run. Not to mention cooler.

Can anyone recommend good LEDs that are 72 inch in length. Also, what kind of color or bulbs do I want?

I am very uninformed when it comes to LED lighting. Thanks.

To replace 400w, ecoray 112d. If PAR is not so important, you could get evolution or if just softies and lps, cadlight or anything on ebay. 12k to 460nm is the spectrum which is cool white to blue.

Unless they have changed the optics, I personally feel the coverage 112D is not suitable for his tank. Never see a Cadlight in person, so not sure what my feeling towards them.

We have a 175 Gallon Bow at our office. You do not need 72" of light to cover your tank.

Here is our thread with pictures of our lights.

That lighting looks nice, but I don't really want to buy three fixtures if I don't have to. Does anyone make a unit that covers most of the 72 inches? Also, will it really cost me a lot less to run that 1200 watts of MH? Also, it runs a lot cooler, right?

I am not sure if anyone has a 72" LED. I can tell you that our lights consume 50W per foot. That means the 3 -18" fixtures would consume 250W compaired to your 1200W MH, not to mention the chiller will not run as often. Good luck in your quest. PM me if you have any other questions.

Is your office's 72" tank running under 3 x 18" fixtures and light consumption is 250w?
