And remember it all starts at the wholesaler. Most of them are watching these boards now and pricing there corals accordingly even though they still pay very little from the collectors. In the end it's the hard working village collectors who lose out in my eyes! They are making pennies on something the wholesaler is making dollars on!

Yah, sure, blame it on the wholesalers
Truth be told, it starts not stateside, but island side. Many exporters have caught on to the "fad" corals, and priced accordingly (in most cases). Some wholesalers own their own station, or have a vested interst in them. In those cases, typically the money is made stateside.
Now I do know a few wholesalers that mark stuff up quite high, and it all sells. If people didn't pay, he wouldn't charge so much Supply and demand is a, well, the B word

It is simply unbelievable that someone who takes the time to frag colonies and sell them instead of removing them from the wild is comdemned.
I wish you the best of success Steve. Carry on!

This Sarchophyton species is very rare and typically demands a high price on the open reef market whenever it is available. It has only been rarely imported and most colonies sold have been grown from small fragments of imported parent colonies. The polyps are brightly colored green. The parent colony that is producing the captive grown offspring that Reeffarmers.com is distributing is being maintained by reeffarmer Tracy Gray within his soft coral reefs. Steve Tyree is maintaining offspring of this coral for reeffarmers.com in a 100 gallon corner Berlin reef aquarium that was setup by Tracy Gray. Within this captive reef the coral is positioned at about 21 inches from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Water current is weak. Starting in May 2003 ReefFarmers.com is allowed to distribute 1 small farmed offspring of this coral per month. Small is actually a tiny colony about 2 inches tall. Small price is $75.
