  1. Personal advice for cutting holes into a tank

I've drilled glass. Get you some cheap Chinese diamond core bits off of e-bay. If you have access to a drill press, that would be the best way to do it. Just go low and slow with lots of water. I've done a bunch of holes "freehand". they're not as pretty, but they still work. I used...
  2. What is my maroon clown doing?

I had a tomato clown who did the same thing. Except mine was a sand bed. She would get in there and kick up quite a storm of sand.
  3. Help!!! Phosban all over my refugium!!!

Last night, while feeding my fish, I noticed some protein buildup on the surface of the water. I adjusted some powerheads around and gave the overflows a good old scrubbing down to increase the water flow (sometimes, I'll get some algae growth that clogs the narrow slits). That did the trick...
  4. Bulk DI Resin

I got both the DI resin and carbon from two-part. It does the job....and is MUCH cheaper. I purchased the color changing resin. Thanks, Eboman
  5. fresh to salt

OK.....I'm gonna get flamed up the wazoo for this. In my opinion, the best way to clean it is to put it in your driveway and to fill it with your garden hose. Then dump some muriatic acid in it and watch it dissolve away wth gunk. Muriatic acid is available at most Home...
  6. Where to purchase tank

This may be the worst flamed post of the entire history of reef.org. So....here it goes. My family used to own a fish store. The "rule of thumb" was to sell tanks and stands at cost (or a little above) and make your money on the livestock and supplies. So.....this is what you want to...
  7. flame angel

Yeah....I think you'll be fine. Fantastic looking fish. You'll see him picking at the rocks, but mine doesn't really bother inverts too much. Great fish.....fun to watch. Be sure to feed him enough and he'll fatten up quite nicely. Stick at ground-probe in the tank (if you don't already...
  8. Help diagnose problem with dying clown *video enclosed*

I'm not trying to be insensitive here.... But, everytime someone asks me about getting into marine fish.....my first word of advise is.... Fish die. Don't take it personally. It's really amazing they make it to our LFS in the first place. I don't think you've done anything wrong...
  9. Tanks at night

For the red LED...I've got a little hand-held one I use for scoping out the goods at night. I wouldn't recommend investing in a "mounted" one. That would be a waste of money. I got mine from an astronomy shop.
  10. Tanks at night

Awesome post!!! I thought I was the only dork who sat around with a red LED light and an "adult beverage" and stared at worms and pods well into the night. My wife thinks I'm stupid. But it is pretty cool. I don't feel like a complete loser now.... Eboman
  11. Why do I bother????

I'm better now....... Whenever I help someone set up a new system, the first thing I tell them before they buy their first piece of equipment is to always remember that "FISH DIE!!! -- GET USED TO IT!!!" You can't take it personally. Thanks for everyone's support. Eboman
  12. Why do I bother????

I've decided to set up the 210 gallon as a FOWLR tank. The neighborhood kids love to come over and see it and they're more interested in looking at the cool fish as opposed to some type of coral. Plus, I would much rather spend time with the 2-year-old daughter than to be messing with strict...
  13. Removal of Bubble Algae

Yup....emerald crabs should do the trick. Plus, I think they're pretty cool looking. When people come over to see the tank, they're always digging on the crabs. "Hey!!! Look what I found!!!!"
  14. Marine vs Fresh feeders for Lion fish

Matt / JimM, I can personally attest that "goldfish are not poison". Lord knows, I ate enough of them back in college. Any liver problems that I may have aquired were more that likely from the massive amounts of alcohol I was consuming while eating the goldfish. hehehheehehehe..... Just...
  15. Do dwarf or snowflake eels actually hunt and eat shrimps?

There's not much in this hobby that really freaks me out more than eels.... Yuck!!! I have no idea why. But even when I go to the LFS and they have an eel tank......I steer clear of it. Yuck!!!! I'm a big fat sissy!! Eboman
