I had a goniopora for about a year and just removed it from my tank a couple of weeks ago. It did fantastic for about six months. It then went on a gradual decline until I removed it. It started with not as much extension on the polyps and ended with significant tissue recession to the point...
I have a blood shrimp and cleaner shrimp. The blood shrimp stays hidden most of the time and does not bother the cleaner. The cleaner is out all of the time. The blood shrimp is beautiful but for the money I would just get another cleaner.
I have hairy mushrooms in several locations in my tank. The ones doing the best are in dim lighting and lower flow. They do like some water movement - just enought to see. The mushrooms in dim light really expand the ones in bright light don't seem to expand as much.
I looked at these several months ago and talked with the company. I have a 58 gallon tank and was advised that it would probably only drop the temperature a degree or two best case. It would take several and then you are in the price range of a chiller. They are for small tanks. Great idea...
I have looked at them. I uses a Peltzer(sp?)junction cooler. An electric current applied to the exchanger causes one side to cool and the other side to heat. The fan is to cool the side that heats up. They require a DC power supply (usually provided separately. However the BTU rating is...
I have one that is quite healthy. He intially started eating my hair algae but he now eats almost anything - brine shrimp, formula 1, and algae. He still eats hair algae from time to time but spends most of his day picking at the live rock and glass.
I would be surprised if the steady-state current draw of the pump is actually 11amps but it could be. The safety approvals (ie UL) required for the pump would not allow for the rating of the power cord to be such as to even get mildly warm. It is either a bad pump or the plug you have it...
I have a 58 gallon tank with a mixture of hard and soft corals. I drip kalkwasser (about 1/2 gallon per day). I use a two part ALK/CA additive. I do use Kent Iodine and Strontium (about 1/2 what they recommend). I do a 20% water change every 4-6 weeks. The additives that I cannot live...
I have a variety of hard and soft corals. Can anyone share their experiences with regard to the use of a planktonic food (such as marine snow etc...). I currently do not use any but am wondering if they could be beneficial. I do not have a DSB (also no clams).
Thanks
Home Depot has a timer for outdoor lighting. It is a grounded timer. It also has a cover and can be mounted inside the tank. Look in the section where they sell the outdoor lighting.
One item to watch is sometime the single edged razor blades have a coating of oil on them. I do use them in my tank to scrape and sometimes cut coral. I just make sure and clean them before I stick them in the water.
