  1. Hi, see what followed me home today

Nope, just went into superlurk! :D
  2. Hi, see what followed me home today

I've been in a new job since Summer 04, which has been keeping me busy and not visiting  However, my tank has been doing well (I'd rather watch the fish & maintain the tank than post 8) ). I decided that my tank has aged enough (120g; about 145 lbs of LR; lots of substrate) that I...
  3. Will this serpent star survive?

Or is it toast already? Some details: I have a AquaC Remora with the Mag-3 pump upgrade, and the internal overflow box. Recently, this serpent star decided to climb into the overflow box. It then decided to stick its arms (and apparently, part of its body) into the Mag-3 pump  After...

  5. Herbert Axelrod Now In Jail

OK, can you parse that sentence? Why not just say "the instrument would be worth more than $1.3M, rather than the $3.3M as appraised"? Why didn't Axelrod just stay in Cuba? Couldn't pay off Fidel Castro enough?
  6. Hey peeps, I need a good hang on skimmer for a 120 gallon.

I have the AquaC Remora Pro with the Mag3 pump upgrade and the preskimmer box. The preskimmer box is a bit awkward, and the Mag3 pump is large. But the whole thing seems to skim quite well and quietly.
  7. any idea what this is

Is it the dreaded out-of-focus encrusting sponge or tunicate? :)
  8. Possilbe changing my 55 to salt...

No, the higher the "K," the bluer the look of the lamp. The "K" rating (degrees kelvin) states how closely the lamp matches a blackbody radiating light, heat, UV, microwaves, etc. So a 20K (20 kilo kelvin) lamp is outright blue, while a 10K lamp is white with a tinge of blue. A 50/50...
  9. Possilbe changing my 55 to salt...

50 W of incandescent is basically 50 W of heat, with some light added. The light produced by an incandescent light is the glow of a red-hot (well, actually, white-hot) filament. Most of the energy used is converted to heat (infrared) photons. Fluorescent lights are a more efficient method for...
  10. HELP!!!

Yes, it is not unusual (watch the double & triple negatives here :) ) to have a larger downflow pipe than return, as the downflow is gravity fed (head is just the distance from tank to floor), while the return is positively pumped. Are you having issues attaching your plumbing?
  11. Gracilaria Algae Invading Swedish Coast

Hey, I want some of that algae for my tang!
  12. first impulse buy now need help

You didn't mention a protein skimmer. I would highly recommend using one. For a 30g, I'd recommend the AquaC regular remora or Urchin, CPR Bakpak series, or Red Sea Prizm Pro (though I've heard many folks complain about the Red Sea Prizm). I've also heard many good things about the Euroreefs.
  13. bristle worm help

Bristleworms (polychaetes) are generally considered to be beneficial scavengers/detritivores.
  14. How to fight batophora oerstedii and dictyota bartayresii

Rent or borrow a tang or urchin, rather than purchasing one?
  15. what exactly is a bulkhead?

Len's picture doesn't have a key, though he does tell you it's at the bottom. (1) is the bulkhead. LordNikon, I thought that in navy parlance, the bulkhead was where guys went to p** in bulk?
