  1. Plumbing experts pls help with plumbing and SCWDs

I agree with having two pumps for redundancy. I also think you will still get more flow from 2 mag 12's vs 1 mag 24. I would also advise this may be a better option due to micro bubbles. One powerful pump can create a larger problem with microbubbles, compared to two smaller pumps. I would say...
  2. Plumbing experts pls help with plumbing and SCWDs

I would advise to run 2 mag 12's, that may you can run each scwd seperately, and have less head loss due to the plumbing issues. I don't think you will get enough flow with one mag 18 running two scwd's. your overflows should be able to handle that much flow, but always put ball valves in so you...
  3. What to use to Protect Inside of Stand?

Thompson's will work better than regular poly, since it is for outside use. I used Kilz primer, it is already white, and pentrates unpainted/unsealed wood very well. Either the primer or thompson's should work fine.

  8. Need opinions on microbubble issue

Need help with Microbubbles I have been working for 3 weeks to try and get rid of the microbubbles in my new tank. I have a 180 AGA RR, 1 1/4 durso's to 1" drain to the sump and fuge. I have a blueline HD 40X external pump for the return with 1" out of the sump to the pump. 1" out of the pump...
  9. Expensive live rock?

5-10 per lb here in Dayton, OH 15 is way to high, 20 is outrageuos. Definitely order from the net if you can't get it under 10 per lb locally. My LFS will order a 45lb box of Walt Smith premium for about 200-225 including shipping
  10. Question about Durso standpipe

You should be able to do it how ever you want under the tank. I have one of my drains tee'd off to feed some of the flow to my fuge, the other side goes straight to the sump. I have my drain to the fuge under water, the drains to the sump are 1/2 inch above the filter floss/pad. You will just...
  11. What does your LFS charge for live rock?

My LFS in Dayton sells Fiji for 3-5 per lb, depending on how nice it is. Caribbean worm rock is 6-8. I was at a LFS in Cincy yesterday, they have crappy fiji rock for 14.99. I was LMAO when I saw it. It is a crappy store anyway, probably won't stop in there any more. They had a 4 foot nurse...
  12. Weekly Discussion - Frozen food?

I feed Formula 1, 2 and angel formula (don't have any angels). Brine and mysis too. My new favorite food is Aqua Yums, not sure of manufacturer. It has a little bit of everything, like squid, silversides, brine shrimp, blood worms, and other stuff, easy to feed because it is in one pakcage.
  13. ? about upgrading tank and what to do with existing sand

Thanks for the replys. looks like I need to start calling HD's again to find some more SD! If I have sand left over anyone is welcome to it.
  14. ? about upgrading tank and what to do with existing sand

I am getting ready to upgrade from a 150 to a 180. My current 150 has a 2 year old sand bed, not sure you can call it DSB, as it is only 2-3 inches. I had planned to move this sand to the new tank and add more SD. Is this not a good idea? I will be cycling the new tank as long as needed. I will...
  15. We're so screwed part 1 (return plumbing)

Robin is correct, I would just add that you shopuld clamp scrap pieces of wood on both side, that way you don't have any chip out of the plexi. Besides that you shoudln't have any problems HTH
