Hi Chris. I will add the outcome of this issue that anyone running into a similar situation can read about it if they search.
I decided to try and pull the spine out. She was easy to catch because she would not leave her eggs. As I brought her to the surface in the net the spine came out on its...
My female clown has one of the fine spines from a banded urchin stuck just below her lower lip! She must have been fighitng the urchin when it came close to her eggs and got stuck. I have had one of these in my finger and man they HURT! There is a black ring around the wound and I am wondering...
bought a Prism at Christmas because it was on sale 40% off and I needed to use a gift certificate. I have not had any of the issues with dialing it in and it just skims away no problem. I took two days to adjust it and have not touched the flow regulator since. However I doubt it processes...
It is said by wiser men than I that Aragonite sand will begin to buffer the water as the PH drops below 8.3 whereas crushed coral does not begin to have and effect until 7 and change.
But perhaps this is irrelevant if you are running kalk reactor or drip.
Freeze Dried Mysis every day. Frozen brineshrimp once every couple of days. I just try to feed my tank these zooplankton critters to simulate a more natural diet. They dont really get flake food.
I run moonlights 9pm-8am / actinic 8am-9pm / daylight 9am-8pm
I do not have any MH so I cant help with that but I thought it was pretty cool that the other hours were the same  My moonlight and actinic run off a coralife timer so they switch together. And the daylight runs on a seperate...
I keep reading about the solubility of crushed coral vs true aragonite. From what I understand crushed coral doesnt begin to help with the buffer untill ph reachs the mid 7's. But aragonite will begin to add to the buffer before you drop to 8.0 so it makes a much more effective substrate for...
I know what you mean about the colors. I added Yellow polyps, Red Lobo and Purple Meat to break mine up a bit. There is also some pink xenia and candycane up abit higher on the rock and out of the shot. I only started this tank around May of this year so it has a long way to go but it does have...
These are very small and I don't see them any where else. They are the size of a pinhead or the ball of a ballpoint pen which leads me to believe they are some kind of larval stage, instar or whatever. What I am really worried about is this being some kind of parasite building up a population...
This is the best I can do for a photo. These small worm type things have been crawling around on the glass for a month or more now. They are 2-3 mm long and move a good speed when they want to. They seem to have a white head and forked tail.
