  1. Help please, from a kind soul out there?

I would suggest that you read ReefKeeping 101 on-line at http://www.animalnetwork.com/fish2/aqfm/1999/feb/newbie/default.asp It is a good introduction to the basics, won't take too long to read and it's free! You might skip the first article, since it is mostly an intro to why the author writes...
  2. HELP!!! My stand is coming apart WITH a reef tank on it!!!

I would try the cycle straps... Use a piece of plywood or two to brace against the stand on the two sides of the failure, then wrap and tighten both straps, one top, one bottom, of the plywood. This will hopefully distribute the force of the straps so you don't end up gougeing into the stand and...
  3. Zoo-Med PowerSweep

Thanks all... Lately I have been considering putting a simple bubbler in a corner of the tank, just a small air pump and open-ended hose; no stone. Big bubbles seem to move a lot of water. This in addition to a regular, smallish PH. I'm on a budget, and it is a really small tank.
  4. Zoo-Med PowerSweep

I just read an archived message about the PowerSweep and wonder if they have improved this product at all? I would really like to find something to provide alternating current in a 20gal nano I am trying to start. Thanks
  5. Titanium heaters

Just wondering if the titanium heaters are any good. In theory they do sound cool. Thanks
  6. Snail eggs???

Rats, The eggs have all been canibalized by something I wonder if anyone has had success moving eggs to a safe area after they have been attached to the tank wall. Seems like it would be next to impossible to do that without harming the eggs. Maybe next time I can build a little fence to...
  7. Snail eggs???

A friend who has just e-mailed me says they are cerith snail eggs. I do have some of both cerith and nassarius snails. reefland, your pic makes the eggs look more widely dispersed than the track of eggs I have, but maybe they are just more developed.
  8. Snail eggs???

Thanks, I only have three fish, a blue damsel, a green chromis, and a bicolor blenny... so maybe the eggs will be safe. I do have a sally lightfoot and some red and grey leg crabs, and would guess that they might be a threat. I hope not, but time will tell. kjb
  9. Snail eggs???

This morning I found what I guess are snail eggs on the front wall of my tank. Perhaps they are something else. I'll try to post a pic and wonder if anyone can ID these for sure. If they are eggs, I wonder how long they might take to hatch out? Thanks

  11. anyone tried making Liverocks from Limestone??

I live in the Southern Indiana Oolitic Limestone belt and have used a few pieces as baserock. I have toyed with the idea of making a support structure from the limestone using a little expoxy but think the stuff we have here is too solid to be of much use as a substitute for regular LR... WHat...
  12. Can Mushrooms Walk?

Or try a turkey baster to blow water through other holes in the rock and hopefully eject the shrooms to withing grabbing distance.
  13. fish or inverts first in my new reef tank?

Hey Terry, If you go to the main reefs.org site there is a link taking you to the Aquarium Frontiers Index. There you can find a fantastic ammount of material including Reefkeeping 101, which covers the basics of set-up. You can skip the first chapter, but the rest is great stuff. I think...
  14. Bedroom Reef - what do you think?

I had the reef in my bedroom and really liked having the light come on early in the morning during the winter to help me wake up. I've moved since and now it is in the dining room. NP with the noise, it just lulled me to sleep. If you get a Simmons you'll love it. I can lie down and someone...
  15. Bedroom Reef - what do you think?

I bought a Simmons Felicity Pillowtop last Spring and LOVE it! You might go with a better model than this one, but don't go cheaper.
