right click it and choose "save as". it's 6mb, so couldn't take longer than 30 min on dialup.
  2. gyre tank and video

After reading last month's article about water flow in advanced aquarist, I decided to build a little gyre tank. It's a 33g (36Lx12Wx18H) with a 2' pane of plexi used as a horizontal divider. The lower region is to allow buildup of momentum, and the results are outright astounding. Currently...
  3. How do I completely kill aiptasia off some liverock?

I recently got some rock from another person's system, and about a week later I spotted some aiptasia polyps on it. I instantly yanked it out along with another rock that was adjacent to it that had a polyp on it too. Now for about a week the two rocks have been sitting in a bucket of tap...

  5. suggestions for which holesaws to get?

anyone out there have suggestions for the "most nessesary" sizes for diamon hole saws? I'm looking to get a bunch off e-bay. All I know is the spears 3/4" tank adapter uses a 1-3/4" (45mm) hole saw. Other than that, I don't know what sizes to get. I wanna order them all at once to save on...

  7. what's this snot on one of my trochus snails?

yeah now that I look at it, I think it's a sponge. I don't have anemones, and it doesn't "siphon" off the snail, it's attached to it's shell. I'm going to leave it, since the snail seems to be having no problems.
  8. what's this snot on one of my trochus snails?

There's this snotty white tissue on a trochus snail in my tank I noticed today. I blow at it with a turkey baster, and the tissue seems like a mucous with a thin skin.
  9. Suggestions ideas for open source aquarium software?

I'm thinking of writing an open source aquarium calculator software, where I'll get my hands on ALL the formulas/calculations I can, and implement them. Can anyone think of any formulas they'd like to see in something like that? There's standard stuff, like aquarium volume, water weight, etc...
  10. T-5 lighting vs. MH

I just bought a 4', 8 bulb teklight fixture from sunlight supply. this bugger's SO bright, you cannot look at it. HO T5's with proper Tek reflectors compare to 250W metal halides, and sometimes even better penetration, considering you don't have the dark areas mentioned earlier. I run my...
  11. Aiptasia?

Got some liverock for my new 120 gallon, and it's curing in the tank. One of the pieces had 3 small (about 3/8" from tip to tip) cnidarians of some sort. Anemones I think. I don't THINK they're aiptasia, since they're clear instead of brown (but they are juvenile), and one of them is showing...
  12. DIY/Cheap retractable pendant hangers?

here's a design for the pulley system. Now to find out where to get pulleys in Canada. Probably don't need very strong ones.
  13. DIY/Cheap retractable pendant hangers?

hmm good idea on the bicycle hoist. googled it and found it's a simple pulley system. I could build my own, as a bicycle hoist would be overkill for a little 150/175 watt pendant. i forgot I took grade 9 science haha
  14. What is important in lighting?

the degrees kelvin is the light's average colour temperature. 6700k or so is daylight above water's surface. 10000k is under water about 3m below the surface? 14k is a little deeper. 20000k is water 30m deep or so. if you want to get picky on colour temperature, you can match according to...
