  1. Save pods and things from "BakPak" refugium??

I also have a BakPak and have saved a few things from the "refugium"...I think a brine shrimp net would do nicely and I wouldn't worry too much about the gunk...That's probably what the pods have been feeding on, think of it as feeding the tank... As for getting rid of the corraline algae, I...
  2. Bumble- Bee Snails ?

Ok, dead fish are not funny, but I just had this mental picture of a Bumble Bee snail leaping from a rock and wrestling a fish to the bottom of the tank... I've got a few Bumble Bees and they don't seem to do anything but eat algae fron the rock and glass...Never seen one anywhere near a...
  3. Can Briopsys be deadly

Mouse, I got my erythromycin at the LFS...Not sure what you'd have to do in the UK... Mitch, It sounds to me like Mouse's cyano outbreak is smothering his corals. He doesn't have weeks or months to stop it... I fought cyano for 6 months in my tank, got it from LFS water. Siphoning, scraping...
  4. Can Briopsys be deadly

Mouse, If the Cyano is giving you fits and nightmares, why not just nuke it with a dose of erythromycin? It worked great for me six months ago. My tank looks better than ever... If you're sure your test kits are good, and you're not reading any Ammonia, Nitrates or Phosphates, it's probably...
  5. OT- anyone here keep Turtles?

I had some friends in Miami who used to keep turtles in a kids plastic wading pool... They dug a shallow hole the same diameter as the pool and set it in the hole...Then, they put up a 2 foot chicken wire fence around it... Didn't look as bad as it sounds...
  6. CPR bakpak help pls.

The water levels you describe are the same I have with my BakPak... I've noticed that I get more bubbles in the tank, and fewer in the chamber, right after I've scraped the glass or after I've done a water change or added Calcium or Buffer... My guess is that those processes change the surface...
  7. 10 gal reef

In my 20G I've found the most difficult thing to control is temperature. I know from being a diver that temperatures on the reef are not constant and can fluctuate fairly quickly, so it doesn't bother me too much. I just let my tank float at room temperature, whatever that might be. Others...
  8. Small tank owners what products do you use to keep your Cal.

I use Seachem Reef Advantage Calcium and Seachem Reef Builder. Reef Advantage Calcium also contains Magnesium and Strontium in proportion to the calcium... I don't test the calcium levels, but the corraline algae in my tank is growing like crazy and forming plates... I guess it's working...
  9. Natural Control and erradication of aptasia outbreak

I have 1 Peppermint in my 20G and it has kept my aiptasia under control for several months...I allow about 6 large (quarter sized) aiptasia to remain, because I like the way they look, but the Pep has kept new ones from appearing... He seems to be quite healthy and moulting on a fairly regular...
  10. Ohhh OHHH I think i have cyno!!!!

Nope...most likely they won't even notice... I have a BakPak II also...I put the carbon in a filter bag and stuff it into the right side, the outflow column...
  11. 2 reasons for clicking sounds

I've also had tapping from one of my larger Trocus snails... He (she?) would periodically shake his/her/its shell and knock it against the glass... It was really loud and freaked me out the first time I heard it...
  12. HELP—Flatworms in a new tank!!!

Charles Delbeek has a good reply to a letter concerning this problem in the latest Aquarium Fish Monthly... One thing I have been doing to get rid of flatworms is to leave the lights off for 2 or 3 days. You'll probably notice the worms climbing up the glass in the brightest portion. Then, when...
  13. Saltwater Aeration

Rather than accepting hearsay, why not just test it? I did... Mixed up one gallon of DI water, added 1/2 cup of Instant Ocean...Stirred the mixture til everything was disolved, ran ammonia test... Result? No measurable amount of ammonia... As far as aeration, I don't do that either... I...
  14. Cumcuber... Is it reef safe?

Here's a picture of my cuke (Larry) in action... The lighting's a little funky, my tank's really not that green... My Reef Pictures
  15. Cumcuber... Is it reef safe?

I have a small brown cuke,I call him Larry... I think this is what some people call a "donkey dong" cuke... This one and the Tiger-Tail cuke are reputedly good for your sandbed...Larry spends most of his time "eating" sand and leaving a little trail of sand pellets behind him... These are...
