  1. Kalkwasser?

Which water do you want to absorb the kalk, tank water or the freshwater? Definitely do not aerate the kalk/freshwater mix as you will precipitate out the bulk of the kalk as calcium carbonate (er, sand). Actually, it's best to keep your kalkwasser sealed up to avoid contact with air before...
  2. Mystery wrasse photos from tonight

Great pics! That open mouth shot is amazing, well done!!!
  3. post your vintage tank pics!

Oceans Ferevh - Oh the memories, my first tank was a 44g Perfecto like yours too! I just found the yellowed recpit for it from '99 the other day. I actually like it better than the bow fronts ...not that I'm too crazy about the pentagon either.
  4. Brittle Star Lost Leg

These guys will lose a leg or literally fall apart if they weren't acclimated appropriately. If he's a new addition I would expect that, otherwise it's possible it became trapped under a fallen rock and dumped it.
  5. new oxygen starvation problem

It could be a lack of circulation and/or adequate movement at the surface of the water. If the tank has a top on it, remove it, and let the skimmer run 24/7. A few additional powerheads will also be in order, with at least one pointed towards the surface for agitation. The tank is likey going...
  6. response to new 55 setup with dragon eel

Oh, sweet! I guess I haven't checked the price on them for a while...
  7. response to new 55 setup with dragon eel

Seconded, not to mention limited availability.
  8. Hey peeps, I need a good hang on skimmer for a 120 gallon.

The Remora and Urchin skimmers are the same exact skimmer, but with different external hardware for hanging on the tank (Remora) or sitting in the sump w/out falling over (Urchin). The noise isn't bad, but i suppose everyone has a different treshold for skimmer noise.
  9. Black Tang!!??

Expect at the very least half that size within a few years or sooner, still one klunker of a fish! And the problem isn't that the system can't handle it, which in a well filtered and maintained system you should have no problem, the problem is the personality overcrowding. A lot of big egos in a...
  10. teardrop clam

Is that a gigas next to it?
  11. Black Tang!!??

These fish are, IME, easy to get at any time. At the shop, there's always a few wholesalers with them stocked, so I wouldn't rush into buying this one for the sake of availability. I agree with Matt, the list of fish you've selected grow very large (Clown triggers max out at 2 feet, half the...
  12. Hey peeps, I need a good hang on skimmer for a 120 gallon.

I agree with Avi and Save_the_Expos, we're not looking at the right class of skimmers here. On my 120 I run an AquaC EV-180 w/ Mag 7 and get pretty good performance out of it; you'll also get comparable performance out of a Percision Marine Bullet-1, with the Bullet likely doing a better job...
  13. Needle in a haystack...

You'll need to get it custom built or drill it yourself. Neither All-Glass, Oceanic, or Perfecto build reef-ready tanks this size.
  14. Algae Cleaner for Curved Front Tanks?

Algae magnets generally don't work very well on bowfronts since the majority of the abrasive part of the magnet doesn't touch the glass (only the edge does). This varies depending on how tight the curve is. Razorblades or the metal kent pro-scraper used with a horizontal motion would also be...
  15. I Need Lighting Suggestions for 92g Corner Tank

I suppose that would depend on your lighting philosophy. I like a well, evenly lit tank without areas that I'm forced to put only lower light critters (that's what we have depth for!). BTW, i suggested 3 halides for this tank, muhahaha :P
