Fluval EDGE update!

I picked up a small anchor coral from the LFS and 2 days later it was dead half eaten by my cleaner shrimp...confused as to why. I placed it within 3 or 4 inches of my leather toadstool and now I'm reading that they have some sort of chemical warfare...how much truth is there to this? Also, that same leather now has a shiny coat to it and has not come out in 2 days which is concerning me I'm reading that they are just moody and do this from time to time...another concern.

Leathers are tricky. They shed a coat sometimes.
In my large tank anything near them suffers.
So they can be toxic.
Try and place it down draft. Away from other things you like.

I was told to stay away from leathers in such a small setup. I have an edge as well and love it for its design and simplicity. I ran into some snags with coral warfare too, but everything seems to have been sorted out now. Looking good nonetheless.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Too bad I learned the hard way by losing a $35 coral but it happens. I'll be sure to do my research and stop with all these impulse buys!

tank is going through phases just like all new tanks my newest issue is red slime algae and this spider web looking covering on most of my live rock...any ideas as to what it could be?

Not sure about the spider web issue but the red algae could be from too much light or high levels of phosphates and/or nitrates..
I have a small outbreak of it too but i think its because I upgraded my lighting to 18 watts instead of the 12. To get rid of it I did a water change and hung my light higher..

thanks for the response...I've cut back on both feeding and lighting over the last few days and make sure to siphon it out when doing water changes. Just gotta keep on top of it and hope it phases out I guess.

eh it's day to day they seem to be so moody especially my leather toadstool (which from what I've read is normal). It will sometimes shed and go days without coming out and others do the same...wish I could have somebody come check my tank out make sure everything is good.

I found aquascaping in an Edge is a pain but cleaning the glass is not much a problem when I use the 2 little fishes magnet velco.

a smaller glass cleaner would be a hugeeee help though mine doesn't fit around the live rock and powerhead and stuff.

My boss wanted to get rid of his anemone so I gladly took him up on the offer for a free coral...what do you guys think? Specific name for this anemone?

this may be too big for your tank unless the tank is already very mature-it has a high bio load. You may have to deal with water quality issue and that means a lot of water change.
