I use those above my frag tank, they are barely enough for zoas and the tank is only 9" tall. I don't recomend those for anything other. The par at 3 inches below the surface is barely 150 with the light 6" above the surface.

Hang them 12" above and it will cover the entire tank but be careful they put out 1200par at the surface. At 6" down I was getting 350 par which will be more than enough for sps. Only thing is they are dimmable but no sunrise sunset. If you want get a 12" orbit marine and use that for sunrise sunset and use to ocean revive as your primary light and is still below half the price for a radion or hydra 52. Is what I did when I first started and got all the effects of those expensive fixtures. There are even weather effects on the orbit marine. Another plus is that the orbit marine provides 4 more spectrums than the ocean revive have.

Ok another question, notice my nitrates stay somewhat high usually, around 20ppm. Fish n corals look good ( always open and even notice growth) as I've stated I,don't have a skimmer or fuge set up just yet. I run 2 hob filters w carbon pads n cheato. I'm reading the pads will hold nitrates. Should I be rinsing w water weekly? Should I remove all together? What can I add to filter if I do?? I roughly 5 gallon wc every 2 weeks on my 36 gallon tank.... as always open to ideas n suggestions. Will using rodi water help eliminate nitrates?

what's up

if you not using RO+DI water to make your seawater I recommend you to start doing so
RO+DI water is pure water 100% clean with 0 tds (total dissolved solids) meaning= 0 nitrates
#2 get rid of those HOB filters if you want to keep corals. you can get away with it but you will need to do lots of water changes
#3 get a skimmer , before getting LEDs
#4 setup a sump
#5 setup a sump
#6 drill your tank and get a sump
#7 if you don't want to drill your tank get a HOB overflow box
#8 read a lot
#9 watch lot of youtube reef videos

Haha thank you! I got the leds but rodi unit is next on the list. I'll have it b4 weeks over. I was looking into the cpr back pack skimmer that holds filtration media. Could I substitute that for the hob filters before I set up a sump\fuge?

so I may be having my first real issue. After putting my new LED lighting on I have noticed my sand and rocks are starting to turn brown. My lights are on from 12:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. I have both channels set only to 10%. I think I am going to cut back my lights by two hours to start. My nitrates are in the 10-20 range but have been for a while. I know I'm going to be yelled at for using tap but my rodi unit is on the way. I plan to do a few water changes w the clean water when I get it. Anyone have anything else to add? Will pictures help?
