You really need to do more frequent water changes bob, things in your tank will be so much happier. I know they are happy now but think about them being that much more happier.

I have a 24 nano and change 5 gallons every 2 weeks.

The only reson for water changes is to stay in control of phosphates and nitrates and trace elements....You might have problems controling that stuff but I'm good and the color on my acros speaks for itself.... Lots of people here do water changes every 6 to 8 months..

There are other reasons for water changes as well remove excess nutrients and get rid of fish waste are just 2 of them.

Good luck with your tank.

Bob, you should try living in your own waste for 6-8 months. Our enclosed systems are no different than that analogy. The biological colonies take care of the initial break down of ammonia and nitrites, but the nitrates and phosphates can only be exported through macro algaes and water changes.

Like Chief said, your system might look happy now, but imagine kicking that up a notch and looking even better.

I just got some kent marine reef carbon. It says to just use it for like 3 days a month and to use a cup for 100G. how much do you guys use? i know most of you leave it in 24/7, it will just be in a bag in one of the chambers in the back, should I just fill the bag or just use a cup?

masterswimmer,
so if I am using it in a mesh bag should I just use it as directed, for a few days each month? I wasnt really sure what a reactor was lol so I went on marinedepot and saw the two little fishies phosban reactor but Im trying to keep everything in the tank (nanocube)

also, if I was to have floss before the mesh bag im assuming that would help keep it from getting gunked up quickly...

I use carbon also from API, but I feel like it is not doing anything. My water has a little yellow tint to it. I change 20% every 2 weeks.

Is there a carbon that is better to use? I also use the 2 little fishes reactors. What size pump do you guys use for it? I have it with a maxijet 1200...
