not sure if anyone has sand or crushed coral, but i think you might be better off getting a few $2 bags of new sand and asking someone for a cup or two of their live sand bed to "seed" yours. you can find southdown sand in most hardware stores. just takes time and your sand bed will be full of life.

don't use the crushed coral, the size of the material allows waste to be trapped between the particles and this will raise the nitrates to an unbelievable amount, not a good thing.

I think he's looking for unused product that we may have laying around not old sand or cc from our tanks but I could be wrong.

Thanks for all

I am grateful to all your input and concerns.

Agree on the crushed coral size issue.
I am testing the effectiveness of an undergravel filter so it may do just what I want. Oh, this undergravel filter is expected to be driven by solar panels when spring comes.

I am using them on fresh water so, whatever come along with the sand would not survive anyway, I assume they are just same as new one.

I am building a major hideout tank with a lot of caves and tunnels so I need the sand to cover the artificial portion of the maze. I will also plant them with greens(So sad, there are no coral in fresh water :grumpy: )

After I finished fooling around with all these DIY stuff in fresh water. I will go into salt water and get the new sand. Thanks again for all the good people out there.

Chris, did your problem of algae bloom solved?

Finally, anyone knows what glue is save for aquarium?
