I've rested quite enough Marina, I'm not the 'resting' type of personality:lol: . Finally able to get out and about now without too much pain. It was great to get back into the gym this week, though I'm bummed about the ground I have to gain back.

Well, I could take a pic of the brown encrusting goo that is covering everything but I'll spare ya  The ammonia level has dropped to zero and the nitrates are dropping nicely so it's still cooking.

Mmmm. Gotta love the brown encrusting goo. Have I mentioned that driftwood doesn't need to be cured? :D

Well, at least with the nitrates already dropping it won't be too much longer til the rock's ready and the real fun can begin :)

:? I get the impression that rock wasn't as cured as advertised  . It's been sloughing off and gacking since I put it in. I have only one loyal snail in there, and he is doing his best to clear up the glass. Just checked the 'trates and they are coming down nicely. I'll do a nice big water change and go get some more cleanup critters.

I presume you don't have any chaeto in the sump yet.

you might try cutting the display lights in half. the idea is to favor any corraline in the rocks over the brown uglies.

Just a thought.

It's pretty much burned out now, and the cleanup crew is chomping away at the last of it. But, I'm going on vacation in a week so things will remain as they are until I get home.

Just a few pictures I took once I got home. The tank survived my vacation pretty good, except for the red gack on the sand  . The frags I got are looking pretty good. Off to the LFS tomorrow for more stuff.

Well...the stocking list so far (I went to the LFS post-vacation and indulged myself)

Anchor coral (pictured above)
Misc zoas, green star poyps
a purple ricordia
pink birdsnest coral w/commensal crab
green sinularia
2 polyp duncanops
hi fin goby and pistolshrimp
a little red slime on the sand (must get nasarious or cerith snails this week)

Here's a few pics, I need to get batteries for my camera so these will have to do for now ;) . The corals are not in final placement, I'm bringing them up into the light gradually.

Thanks Tom, sorry a bit slow in replying. Well, wind up and throw yet another experience on the learning pile (mine is so tall I have to climb onto the second story roof and pitch upwards  ). I bought a Tunze skimmer and while I did check the dimensions to make sure I had room inthe sump for it I didn't check just how high a sump water level it requires to work. It's about a foot....damn. That level is too darn high for comfort considering I'm using a storage bin for a sump. I'm terrifed it'll bow and crack due to the expansion so I have to go and buy another glass tank and redo the sump.

Ah well! Everything else is going great, the cyano has died off and the frags are doing well. Here's a few pictures. One is of my Duncanops sp. after feeding. It has shown an utterly amazing capacity to eat large chunks of meaty foods.

Oooh! Sexy birds nest!!

Watch out that sinularia doesn't do like the ones I picked up w/ you back a cpl yrs ago... - It went APE SHIZ and almost took over the tank, dropping fraglets all over the place and shading out about a third of the tank.. :?

Looking fine though, keep the pics coming! (And feel free to include any you get that have a reflection of the owner feeling very comfortable too. - I know its been done before, but I'm betting you can do much, MUCH better at it..) ;) :D

Looking good. Does the Duncanops digest even the bigger chunks? I'd worry about half digested coral hurl getting in the water... :?

So far it consumes everything I give it, it just expands and takes it in. I'm careful not to put chunks in it that are too big.
