64g Tokyo tank

Thanks guys. The little fella was dispatched today, so should arrive tomorrow evening all things going to plan (which they should, this being Japan and no typhoons being forecast - speaking of which I love the way over here you can specify which 2 hour period you want something delivered in, anywhere between 8am and 10pm - inconceivable in the UK).

Inconceivable over here, too. Hell, I'd pay just to be able to arrange for deliveries anytime after 6pm. Would make my life considerably easier.

If we had that system in the UK, you can bet they wouldn't actually hit the two hour slot either, but here they do every time. The little Blenny should be just fine I think.

Very well thank you! He arrived looking in fine shape to my untutored eye. He's of course now hidden himself in the rocks, but I was expecting that from what I'd read. He might do better with a dither fish in the tank, so I'm planning to try and buy my N. helfrichi this weekend.

Plenty of algae growth in the tank for him to graze on in the meantime.

You can always take a razor to a piece of frozen shrimp (frozen makes cutting easier) and sliver off tiny pieces. Use a set of tweezers to feed the slivers to the blasto.

I would just take a piece of shrimp and rub it into almost a paste between my finger and thumb right in front of the polyps.

Thanks Andy, but getting a feeding response is not a problem with a Blasto based on the one I had - you just drop a mysis shrimp on the tissue and it curls round the shrimp, moving it to the mouth. Unfortunately, in any case the Blasto didn't make it.

Laziness. I would get a frozen piece of shrimp out of the freezer and just thaw it while smashing it up in the tank.

Some photos of the first fish in the tank, thanks to my wife and her iPhone.

He appears to have some white marking around the mouth which isn't apparent in photos I've seen on the net. I'm not sure if they're permanent. Once I looked and it didn't appear to have the white specks.

That's helpful information Andy - thanks! It's really odd the way the color changes though. I guess fish like tangs change color at night etc, so the concept isn't so odd maybe.

I'm beginning to see already why they say Blennies have personality. He's a big hit with my wife already.

He's grazing happily away on the algae in the tank. Thanks to my hands off approach to cleaning (deliberate, in anticipation of his arrival), there's plenty for him to feed on. The internet pages I've seen seem divided on what this species will eat (some saying they predominantly graze, some saying they will eat meatier food as well), but I'm hoping he will take to pellets as well. Plan to buy the second fish this afternoon and hope that the Blenny will be encouraged to eat pellets if the second fish (probably a N.helfrichi) leads the way. I might need to get some pellets for herbivores just for the Blenny.

I think I might set up a 5 g for some Clown Gobies.

I plan to get one for this tank as well. Can't decide whether to go for a yellow or green though. The green look more striking close up, but I suspect the yellow would add more to the overall look of the tank. I'll probably end up going for a healthy looking specimen of whatever's available at some point.

I kept a Citron, Green, and Brown in a 29 G without a problem. I had to keep the tank well covered to keep everyone in the tank though. Some how my Yellow Head Jawfish found the only gap and dried out on the floor one night.

I was wondering if my new, $90, fish had suffered the same fate this morning, given there was no sign of him, but reassured myself that firefish are known to find a bolthole in the rocks overnight. Sure enough he came out when I was adjusting the position of the latest coral purchase, another Ric, this time a yuma.

The best shot so far of the helfrichi, taken yesterday by my wife. Rather harder, given that it won't sit still like the Blenny does. I need to take some time to take some decent shots today if I can, including of my new zoa frags.
