HOLY S I ACTUALLY HAVE A TANK

and somewhere to put it.

and something to go on top!

Now if the tank would just fit on the stand!

It looks like i'll be sanding 3/16" off either side of the top and bottom trim so It will fit. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to break it down and put starfire panels in. I'm tired of waiting for a tank!

So I'm going with starfire front and sides.

There was a decent sized chip on the back of the tank when I bought it. I wasn't too concerned. It, of course, cracked. I can get the bottom eurobraces out of the pane. I'll jus tuse the old front as the back and make all my cuts.

SO I was taking the tank apart and chipped a BIG chip out of the bottom. SO I have to buy a new bottom too.

I'll build the tank tis week, after I get the glass. Pics later.

1: Glass cages drilled incorrectly
2: Imaginary GC tank.
3: Bid for glass to build a tank: Starphire front and ends, $215. The rest of the glass for the tank $485
4: THIS tank used from Sean at AC. $75 I can use these pieces to build the tank, eurobracing, and overflow box.

SO i figure right now I'm $400 ahead of the bid to get the pieces myself. Plus I still have to find somewhere to cut and machine the eurobrace pieces. So I figure I'll be around the $350 mark when all is said and done.

And that's $22 cheaper than the glass cages tank. . .

Yeah, it's been a while since I've updated.

The last piece of my starfire is ready on tuesday. Meanwhile I'm making a prototype of my ballast box for my new tank:

I found the perfect connector for the single disconnect.

As soon as I find a metal box for under $50 I'm buying it and putting it together for real.

Uh oh, another ghetto (prototype  , yeah right) DIY. Craig needs to see this. He'll take credit for design

It looks good B. Hopefully you don't get complacent and stop at the prototype. It's very difficult to gain perspective from your pic. Those quick connects, are they like JG quick connects for vinyl tubing?

Russ, there's only one quick connect. it's the big connector to the left. the 5 smaller ones are heyco waterproof strain reliefs for the plugs. MH-1, MH-2, T5-1 T5-2 and 12v stuff (canopy fans, moonlight, and ballast box fan.) The red switches are 5amp breakers for each circuit.

And I was just using cardboard to get the spacing of the switches/disconnects. As soon as I find the right metal box I'll switch it over.

Two hundred thirty-one days later.

I should have had a tank last July 9th.

Today I have a tank! It's all together, tomorrow I'll add the eurobracing. Next week sometime I'll see if it holds water!

Total cost for this tank.

$75 for the 58 I took apart. I used the back and the front for this. THe back stayed the back, the front was cut into eurobracing I should have just bought a new piece.

$200 for the 3 starfire pieces Front and sides.

$35 for a new bottom piece. I picked up a new piece rather than scab a piece over the holes that were drilled in the piece I had.

$12 silicone

$322 total. Which is cheaper than the glass cages tank I didn't get.
