by | Dec 15, 2002 | 0 comments

Welcome to the Photo Gallery Spotlight. Each month we’ll showcase a particularly nice aquarium photograph, taking the time to discuss the identification and husbandry of the animal pictured as well as information relating to the technical details of how the photo was taken. Readers are encouraged to send images (and details on the organisms pictured, as well as the details of how they captured the shot) they would like to submit for possible inclusion in this feature to [email protected] . For submissions that are published in Advanced Aquarist, the author will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from one of our participating advertisers.PS_tusk_12_12_02.jpg

This is a photo of a section of Terry Siegel’s reef tank, featuring his Harlequin Tuskfish_ (Choerodon fasciata). The photo was taken by Peter Siegel, a professional photographer, whose goal was to use available digital photographic equipment as a means toward producing an aesthetically pleasing photograph. It is Peter’s feeling that the majority of photographs of reef tanks and their inhabitants show a lack of concern for composition, as if the photographer was only concerned with clarity. In a future issue of Advanced Aquarist,_ Peter Siegel will present an article illustrating how to use photographic equipment with the ultimate goal of creating a beautiful picture.

Equipment

  • Camera: Fujifilm FinepixS2Pro
  • Shutter: Speed 1/125
  • Aperture: F 6.7
