MBRI’s Soundscape Listening Room

by | Jun 19, 2025 | Reefs in Art, Technology | 0 comments

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is a brilliantly innovative organization located in California, dedicated to “advancing marine science and technology.” Their work covers everything from tracking ocean life and ecosystem health, to studying the geological processes that shape the ocean floor, to observing and recording sound to understand how ocean communities interact and are impacted by human activities. The MBRI scientists invite the public to come along on this journey through their “Soundscape Listening Room,” where we can livestream everything being recorded right now, as well as access previous recordings of dolphins, orcas, sperm whales, and more, all recorded on MBRI’s hydrophone (underwater microphone) off Central California. It’s free and available HERE

Enjoy! And let us know, which one was your favorite? Mine is the humpback whale: https://freesound.org/people/MBARI_MARS/sounds/448984/
