so far i have been on the lookout for increase of nutrients. so far my nitrates are still .02ppm (salifert), and phosphate went up from .02 to .04 (hanna meter)...
my nutrients have been running really low ever since i installed a Ati bubble master 160 on 65-70 gallons (between tank and sump)

Im using fauna marin ultra mins, dosing .2ml every morning. Lights don't come on til 5:30PM so the tank has enough time to utilize it.

Regarding dosing in the evening. Maybe the wrong method?

Amino acids; a true controversy
By Tim Wijgerde

Scientists also found that amino acid uptake is stimulated by light, by using metal halide lamps at different heights. Above 160 micromole photons / second / cm2 there was no extra amino acid uptake. For aquarists it means they don't need to put 400W bulbs above their (average sized) tanks to ensure amino acid uptake. However, it is interesting that amino acid uptake is a diurnal (during daytime) event.

I dose in the morning before my MH come on usually or if its a weekend and i dont wake up early i does after they have come on. Oyster eggs is feeding the corals and dosing aminos is replacing some of the stuff taken out during skimming

Kind of. Think of it this way. You eat food to survive but you put lotion on your skin to stop it from drying out. Do you also eat the lotion? I hope not. But the aminos are not just food for the corals. They help add to color and help replace some lost nutrients.

Hi guys,

just to resume about aminos:

- during the metal halides on is the best moment to dose amino;
- turn off the skimmer is a good idea too;
- aminos are not "FOOD" for corals rather a product that helps it live better

And about circulation? Turn off or leaves on?
How long time the skimmer have to be off?
The best way of dosing amino is just dropping it in the tank or giving it in the "mouth" of the coral?
