Shouldn't you research first then add fish later?

This is my problem with local collecting. People carelessly do things this and then when people comment they should not put anything in their tank without knowing the name, size at full maturity, temperament and proper living conditions and care for the animal they get all bent out of shape. Proper research first so you are not sorry later. Oh and please don't release it back into the wild! That's another topic of carelessness altogether.

It's a Banded rudderfish (Seriola zonata). Unless u have a big tank it will be dead soon unfortionally. A local and common fish to our waters. Often confused with Pilotfish (Naucrates ductor).

:wow: Poor fish, I guess educated collecting would have revealed that answer before that fish was doomed to this glass tank to die.

I have never said none of my fish have died.

I properly research the fish I add to my tanks so I can properly provide them with a an environment that will indeed support that life. I don't go out and get a fish and then ask how to care for them. So next time you add your .02, make sure you RTFP's. :lame:

Well as you can see he caught the fish and doesnt know what it is. Hence hes asking here on MR and your J#$k off post are not helping him. Maybe you should take ur d&%k out ur A$$ and help him instead of knocking him and trying to make him look like a fool. Also watch your mouth because i am not your SON... and my dad is dead. a$$hole.

If it's as common as previously stated it's probably covered under regular fishing permits. Doesn't look like it would be good to eat though probably pretty bony.

i think the issue is he caught the fish, didn't know what it was (all ok to this point) then apparently threw it in his tank (not ok). once its in the tank you can't release it, so he is stuck with it unless he wants to kill and eat it.

and unless you are ready to give the guy a 1000 gallon tank, how exactly do you plan to help him?

If you had any comprehension of the negative effects such actions of much local collecting and the impact it can have... you'd remove the attitude (which is pretty digusting) and possibly understand the reason for someone writing in a way that may not be so nice out of a passionate heart for the animals. Releasing the fish after the fact cannot happen. Just another senario of know before you buy/take. What if this fish were protected? Then what?

It's not like asking about a common fish found in a LFS... it is asking about a fish native to a specific area, which most times if not almost all times without the proper system will die. I've known people that have kept tanks with local animals, not the issue here. The issue is this person took something, didn't know what it was and decided to put it in their tank.

What's done is done you say... fine... information was offered on what the fish was so the original poster here can find the information about the fish to hopefully have success in keeping it. Though if noone warns of the reasons why you shouldn't just take things blindly from the waterways, what will happen next time?

If you take notice I didn't need to use profanity once in my reply to you.

Now why couldnt everyone be like you on this site. If the moderator is so passinate about this. The why does he keep fish of his own. Everyone knows most animals should be left in the wild where they belong and everyone knows that most times if you keep an animal it most likely will not live as long trapped in a cage / tank rather then being left in its proper homes. Anyhow he was rude and very unpleasant. If he would have made a post like yours I wouldnt even have chimed in. The reason i cursed was because he called me his SON. and i didnt like that because my dad is gone and he is not my Father. He's a wise guy behind the computer and his lil fish book. Besides the fact that he did not offer any useful information. I sure wish there were more ppl like you "PINKHEINE" on this site. Who can actually write a post and not be rude about it. You are one of MRs more knowledgeable and nicer people.
