I will be purchasing the tunze nano wavemaker for my nem tank very soon. I've been reading about it and no negative reviews. It seems to me that it is a very underrated product.

I feel like there will still be a need for a flow-based pump, as the Wavebox is good for back and forth motion, but it won't get detritus up and to the overflow box.

Hecdr,

not so much underated but under utilized.

IMO no power head can mimic what is does but its kind of unsightly to some reefers. Its a large black box in the tank.

Here is a video of my mertens and chrysogaster swaying in the flow.

Very nice! I have a black background and black sand so I don't think it will be that noticeable. I just love the natural look of fish and corals swaying back and forth at the same time.

Its actually helps to suspend the particles in the water coloum and the strong return helps to move them into your sump or filter sock.

You see in the pic how my sand is all over. My clowns keep moving it so i kept taking it out and with the wavebox flow its makes it into piles and then breaks um down.

Good stuff guys.

To the OP, I hope you dont mind the slight thread-jacking. Lol

Hey RC, do you know of other anemones that will host a. Polymnus? I have a pair, but I don't really want a haddoni, Crispa, or LTA.

I owned 2 Tunze wave boxes before and traded them out because they are too ugly even in a 300G due to the requirement in placement

I suggest you to ask Tunze to send you the manual first to make sure you like the placement and how big they are.

You leave these wave boxes on all the time? These mimic the tidal surge that occurs on reefs but from what I have experienced while diving the cycle is much faster and more violent than in nature.
Seems the port on the DIY model could be restricted and the cycle length increased to create a much more gentle effect.
These periods occur at the cusp between tidal changes when the lunar gravity is tugging against the momentum of tide. The effect is gentle swaying. That video looked a lot more violent and stress inducing.

You can actually set the intensity on it and it also comes with a photo cell.

I leave mine on all the time because the ocean never stops.

As i said some people dont like it because of how it gets placed. The nano is soo much smaller.

MOTE marine Institute has a tank like this. Very cool to watch. They use an Mp20 for waves and mh lighting.
