Has anyone tried or heard of Eco Aqualizer??

So I'm one of the suckers who added one of these to my system. Its been running for awhile (6-8 months). I was never sure if it helped my tank, but it never seemed to hurt it either. A couple of days ago i lost power to the tank including the ecoaqualizer and a grounding probe. Now the ORP in the tank has dropped dramatically from approx 250 to 100. No other changes to the system. All corals are closed up and look terrible. Since getting power back the ORP has started to rise to approx. 130 (after 24 hours of being back on). Do you think this could have anything to do with the ecoaqualizer or the grounding probe?

How long was the power out? You lost power to everything, or just to the pump running the AE and the grounding probe? Do you have a DSB?

The AE had nothing to do with the ORP level - ORP drops if the oxygen supply is restricted, or if you add a lot of organics to the water both of which happens in a tank without power.

The power was out off and on for about 24 hours. The power was for the circulation pump, AE & grounding probe. I have no done a 25% water change, removed the AE & grounding probe. I also tested and found a high nitrate level. I added a poly bio filter to the sump. Corals are all closed and ORP is approx. 115 on my Neptune controller.

That was my thought, maybe a die-off causing a spike?

The tank has a small sandbed (approx. 1-2"). I also have a refugium that hangs on the side of the sump that has approx. 6" of sand, but while I was having the electrical problem the refugium was still getting circulation from the water that was in the sump.

Sound to me like the 02 went down during the power outage and that dropped your ORP. It may have also caused a mini crash that brought your nitrite up.

The AE did nothing to help or hurt.

what do you suggest? Do I put back the ground probe and ae? Do I leave in the poly bio filter? Any more water changes or just wait it out and hope everthing recovers?

Water changes are always good. Polyfilter is good, carbon is good, AE is junk.

The Aqualizer did nothing before - it did nothing when the power was out and it will do nothing from here-on out. So no I wouldn't worry about it :mrgreen:

I just read an article on this product and they stated that if something like this would actually work it would be used in other applications such as in the medical field and cleaning of drinking water. The article is in the july edition of Freshwater and Marine Aquarium. They talked about things it could be used for in the medical field such as cleaning blood if something to this nature could be accomplished. Bottom line was this does nothing for you aquarium.

If your going to act a critic about something the first thing you need to do is read correctly and then dispute the claims as stated! If your going to misrepresent what was stated then you are more guilty than the company who's claim you are disputing. Why? Because you are a bald-faced liar! I mean---do you know for a fact, that no one is using this for medical purposes? Do you know what it takes to get new tech to first appear even in unpublicized trials in the medical market? I worked in Quality Control for United States Surgical Corp. and I know. If you were to say this 10 years from now you would be justified. Aside that, no such claim was even made for this product. You need to go back to elementary school and learn how to read!

The word panacea and snake oil come to mind but heck give it a try.

Bottom line is remember the miracle elixers of the early 1900 cures what ailes you. IMO the same thing here you think it will work, it will work. A person puts this fairy tale creature on their tank and start to pay alot more attention to their tank. In a few days " Man this water is so much cleaner ". If you have in it your mind it will work then it probally will (in your mind) For anyone who is interested I have devolped a product that will keep you tank cleaner and healthier. I took a 2" piece of PVC installed a space age heater, wrapped the inside with sandpaper and dollar bills.

Next thing you're going to tell me is that someday they are going to put a man on the moon! Oh wait. They did! Then, what I mean is, someday they are going to use staples to do surgery! Oh wait they do! Then, what I mean is some day thel'll fly without wings! I give up. The best you guys can manage to think of is how to eat a steak with those new fangeled things called forks and knives---Which end do I hold?

The guys had a booth next to us at the IMAC. It was comical listening to them, especially when they would get into an arguement with someone. In the end, when pressed as to how it worked.. they would repeatedly say "we don't know, it just does". It was however shocking to me how many people bought them. People will buy anything tho.. that is why all these "miracle" pills and snake oil products still SELL. Sometimes I'm in favor of only allowing people with an IQ of 100 or better to breed.. but then people start calling me a facist.

IMHO, I don't know if this thing works (though I doubt it based on my understanding of magnetism)
However, if a company develops a product they purport to be beneficial it is *their* job to prove the claims they make. Insofar as they have never given any data above the purported 'Dr.' and state that even *they* don't know how it works, I relegate this to the realm of the snake oil.

I thought I posted some place in this mess that I tried that thing and nothing really happenned. It did seem to mess my skimmer up a bit, it stopped producing foam as much. Corals seem to be less vibrant, probably due to the skimmer being less active. I got fed up with the thing and sent it to MattM @ Inland to rip apart or test.
